Olivia Wilde will be directing this star-studded psychological thriller that sounds perfect in all aspects.
Olivia Wilde's second directorial venture is coming! Don't Worry Darling is a psychological thriller film written by Katie Silberman, based on a story by Carey and Shane Van Dyke and Silberman. The film is being helmed by Wilde who made her directorial debut with the coming-of-age film Booksmart in 2019. The film is already much-anticipated owing to the star-studded cast and Wilde herself. The movie stars Florence Pugh (Midsommar) and singer-turned-actor Harry Styles.
The film has already seen its fair share of drama with Styles replacing Shia LaBeouf who was fired by Wilde for unprofessional behavior on set. Wilde spoke about her "no a**holes on set" policy while filming the project. The film sounds perfect in all aspects. Here's everything you need to know about this project.
We know very little about the plot of the film. Which only serves to pique our curiosity about the thriller. What we do know is that the film follows Alice (Pugh), a housewife who lives in a utopian experimental community in the ’50s. She soon discovers that her darling husband, Jack (Styles), is not who he seems and has a dark secret. Her neighbor is wary and even tries to warn her that their community itself is not what it seems.
The men of the community are employed outside town. Chris Pine is also in the film and his character is revered by all of his staffers and their wives, almost like a cult. Speaking about the film, Pine said, "The aesthetic of the movie is beautiful. The story is so compelling and so fun and so dark and twisted ... Shooting was wonderful. Olivia is very clear about what she wants."
Pugh and Styles are in the lead roles, as Alice and Jack. Wilde will also be acting in the film as Mary along with Pine, Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne, and Nick Kroll in supporting roles. Dita Von Teese will also be making a special appearance as a Burlesque Dancer.
The film had earlier signed on Dakota Johnson who was replaced by Layne. Sydney Chandler, Douglas Smith, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Timothy Simons, and Ari'el Stachel have joined the cast of the film.
The filming process started in October 2020. It was brought to a standstill after someone in the crew contracted COVID. The lead actors were quarantined after that and the shoot halted for two weeks. The shoot was finally completed in February 2021.
The film is now in post-production and is expected to be released theatrically on September 23, 2022.
Yes, there is. Wilde teased the thriller with the shortest but very intriguing teaser (including a passionate kissing clip between Pugh and Styles) on her Instagram. You can watch it here:
