'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' finally finished filming. Here are all the latest updates.
'Doctor Strange' 2 is finally picking up after numerous setbacks in production.
Filming for the anticipated sequel wrapped up in April 2021, and we have been eagerly anticipating all the latest updates for the upcoming film.
The sequel is officially called 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' and will feature a new Marvel character along with our superhero favorites.
There has been a lot of reshuffling with the release dates brought by the Coronavirus pandemic and the resignation of the first movie's director Scott Derrickson over "creative differences" back in January 2020.
Release Date: March 25, 2022
'Doctor Strange' 2 is slated to release on March 25, 2022. Note that this date could still change, just like it did in the past. 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' was supposed to arrive on May 7, 2021, but its production has been severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The cast and crew were unable to start filming until November 2020, pushing back the release date to November 2021.
That launch was delayed again to March 2022 to give more time for filming and post-production. Filming finally wrapped up by April 2021, and hopefully, post-production will go smoothly in time for the May 2022 release date.
We already have six confirmed cast members for the upcoming sequel. Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Doctor Stephen Strange.
Elizabeth Olsen is confirmed to appear as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch, together with Chiwetel Ejiofor as Karl Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.
The sequel is also expected to bring in new cast members. So far, we have Xochitl Gomez confirmed to join as America Chavez, aka Miss America.
In the comics, America Chavez comes from the Utopian Parallel, a dimension that exists out of space and time to the Marvel Multiverse. She identifies as a lesbian and is the first Latin-American LGBTQ Marvel character. She was raised by two mothers, Elena and Amalia. Her mothers died after sacrificing themselves when the Utopian Parallel was threatened by black holes.
Chavez is the only one to survive among her race. She used her abilities to open an interdimensional portal to find a new home, which eventually led to her arrival on Earth.
We don't know if Chavez's background story in the comics will be carried out in the film, but it's nice to know her origin.
'Doctor Strange' 2 will take place after the events of 'Avengers: Endgame', and more specifically after 'WandaVision'.
Dr. Strange continues to look for the Time Stone, but an old-friend-turned-foe stops him from his plans and caused him to release unspeakable evil.
At this point, we are still not sure if Wanda will be Dr. Strange's ally or enemy. The show's ending did not reveal much about where exactly she stands in the upcoming sequel. Will Wanda help Dr. Strange? Or will she be the one to cause the multiverse shenanigans?
Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirms that the shows and the movies are going to be interconnected and the ending of 'Loki' Disney + series perfectly sets up the events for 'Doctor Strange' 2.
"These episodes will intersect with the movies in a very big way. It's a totally new form of storytelling that we get to play with and explore, Feige told Variety.
The 'Loki' series follows the God of Mischief moments after he stole the tesseract during 'Avengers: Endgame.' At the end of the series, Sylvie, the female Loki, killed He Who Remains, creating the multiverse. The decision installed free will, but the multiverse comes with bigger threats.

The film has just wrapped up production, so the trailer is not ready yet. Don't worry because we will make sure to share the official trailer with you once it drops. We've been waiting for 'Doctor Strange' 2 for years now, a few months more shouldn't hurt that much.
