Reports Suggest That Sony Wanted A Massive $10 billion For Spider-Man Rights That Disney Refused To Pay

The Marvel Sony fallout has managed to shock a lot of fans to their core and this latest report has made the incident even more controversial.

There still could be a possibility that Spiderman will return to MCU one day, but it doesn't seem like it will happen anytime soon. According to the sources of We Got This Covered, the two sides are still not close to striking a deal. The source also mentioned that Sony reportedly wants $10 billion for the rights to the Spiderman franchise, and Disney, even after making much more from the Peter Parker franchise refused to pay the amount.

While it is understandable that the amount asked by Sony might seem a little steep, it’s really not when put into the perspective of how much the Mouse House generates per year. Additionally, it is also important to remember these guys are basically printing money with all of their live-action features, animated films, Pixar movies, Star Wars installments, and Marvel flicks. So, it is definitely not the fact that the Mouse House does not have the finances to pull this deal through, it is more about the fact that they don't want to.

It is also becoming more and more clear Disney is the reason the deal did not go through, Kevin Smith might not want to admit it, but every story that comes out about these failed negotiations seems to make Sony look like the good guy. The corporation is also trying their level best to appease the executives at the House of Mouse by continually offering settlements that satisfy both parties. It is also reported that they even suggested that Disney could own 25% of the Spider-Man series going forward, as opposed to the 5% they used to have, which was promptly declined and countered with an egregious 50/50 split.

Whatever the reason for the fallout may be, it has managed to outrage the fans and the fans don't care who really is responsible for the situation. They just want Peter Parker back in the MCU. Todd Mcfarlane has voiced out his concern and said that Spidey is not coming back to the MCU ever. Hopefully, though, something can be worked out in the near future and if it doesn't happen, then audiences will just have to get used to an Avengers squad without Spider-Man.
