Dept. Q Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Dept. Q is a new Netflix series about a detective with personal issues working on an old case. It premiered on May 29 and quickly grabbed the audience’s attention, reaching the Netflix Top 10 in 72 countries. But will there be more? Here’s everything we know.

Is Dept. Q Season 2 Happening?

As of now, Dept. Q has not been officially renewed for more episodes. With that in mind, the show has positive reviews and strong viewership numbers, so it has good chances of success.

Additionally, the cast appears eager to come back. Matthew Goode, the lead actor, said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that the show is “begging” for a season 2. He also mentioned to the BBC that it depends on the fans if there will be a follow-up. “I’d love to do more with this,” he admitted.

If Netflix renews the series soon, Dept. Q season 2 might come out in late 2026 or early 2027.

What Could Happen in Dept. Q Season 2?

Dept Q. takes place in Edinburgh and focuses on Detective Chief Inspector Carl Morck, who was once well-known and is now healing after a traumatic event. He is moved to the new Department Q, a cold case unit located in a basement.

Even though the department focuses on public relations, he works with a group of unusual people who might uncover old mysteries. The main focus for the department is the puzzling disappearance of a prosecutor that happened four years ago.

Without revealing any details, season 1 concludes with Morck’s team cracking the case. So, a possible season 2 of Dept. Q will probably explore a new mystery.

The show is based on a series of books, and the second one centers on a double murder that happened many years ago. Dept. Q could change that story, while also adding more details about Morck’s past traumatic event.

So far, there are 11 novels in the series, with the first one called The Keeper of Lost Causes (or Mercy, depending on the edition). You can find them in English.
