This erotic psychological thriller has been in the works for several years and is finally set to be released.
The erotic psychological thriller Deep Water is a much-anticipated release that will see the return of director Adrian Lyne after a hiatus of nearly 20 years. It has been in the works for a few years now and is finally set to see the light of day soon, with a star-studded cast. It is based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Patricia Highsmith, which was brought back into print in the US in 2003.
The project had started production in 2013, which was delayed, and the project was transferred from Fox 2000 Pictures to New Regency and was finally taken in by Walt Disney Studios. Here's everything you need to know about the film.
The story follows a couple, Vic and Melinda Van Allen, who is in a loveless marriage. To keep the marriage going and to avoid the hassle of a divorce, they come with a precarious arrangement wherein Melinda is allowed to have extramarital affairs. This is with the condition that she does not abandon her family. The couple then begins playing deadly mind games against one another, which soon results in those around them dying. Vic is jealous of his wife's affairs and tries to win her back. Instead, he becomes a prime suspect in the disappearance of her lovers.
The book has been previously adapted to screen with a setting in France and for a second time into a television film in Germany.
The lead roles in Deep Water will be played by Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, who will be playing Vic and Melinda Van Allen. They have been associated with the project since its conception several years ago. Affleck has appeared as a prime suspect in the disappearance of his wife in the adaptation of the book Gone Girl previously. De Armas has been making waves with her performances in the films Knives Out and the latest James Bond film, No Time To Die.
The other actors who will be a part of the film include Tracy Letts as Lionel, Rachel Blanchard as Maggie, Lil Rel Howery as Nash, Finn Wittrock as Dom, Jacob Elordi as Richard, Dash Mihok as Arthur, Kristen Connolly as Jackie, Jade Fernandez as Evelyn, Michael Braun as Jeff Peterson, and Michael Scialabba as Kevin Washington.
The film was originally scheduled to be released on November 13, 2020, but was delayed to August 13, 2021. It was once again pushed forward a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The film is set for a theatrical release on January 14, 2022, by 20th Century Studios for the Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
