Dead to Me arrived on Netflix with its final installment, here's why it was canceled.
Dead to Me arrived on Netflix on November 17th, 2022 with its third and final season. The show amassed a decent number of views that have led fans to wonder why they canceled the show after its third season. Here is everything we know about the show's abrupt cancellation.
Unlike a lot of Netflix shows which were canceled, Dead to Me was given a final season order. As a result, all storylines came to a conclusive end.
While Netflix has not really offered us an explanation why it renewed Dead to Me for a final season, it likely came to an end because most Netflix Originals don't go beyond 3 or 4 seasons.
Their metrics show that the show would've hit a point of diminishing returns, hence decided to end it on good terms. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter the creator of the show Liz Feldman explained, "I always knew that it was going to be a short-lived show. I wanted three or four seasons, but I’m realistic in terms of where the show lives. It lives on a platform that doesn’t traditionally give more than three or four, or sometimes even one or two, seasons. I wanted the ending to feel important and not just, like, “Oh shit, we’re going to get canceled!"" Christina Applegate also echoed those sentiments when the cast first met after the renewal of the final season, "I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women. Thank you to all the fans."
Well, Netflix is all set to team up with the showrunner of Dead to Me for more future projects, and one has already been announced. The name is No Good Deed, which is a 30-minute dark comedy from Gloria Sanchez Productions. Here is the synopsis for the upcoming show:
"No Good Deed is a dark comedy that follows three very different families vying to buy the very same 1920s Spanish-style villa that they think will solve all their problems. But as the sellers have already discovered, sometimes the home of your dreams can be a total nightmare."
Executive Producer on Dead to Me, Adam Mckay, also signed another project with Netflix called Kings of America which is still in the development stage. All these projects give us the hope of seeing some of the Dead to Me cast members here and there.
As mentioned before, Netflix originals are extremely short-lived; few shows successfully make it past the 4th season mark. Hence there have been no rumors or whispers of a spin-off yet. Applegate clearly bid adieu to her co-stars and marked the end of the journey. She wrote on Instagram, "I will miss these ladies. But we felt this was the best way to tie up the story of these women. Thank you to all the fans." In the meantime here is our list of all the Netflix shows coming soon, here's hoping it'll save you from Dead to Me blues...
