Daniel Craig Doesn't Think James Bond Should Be Played By A Woman

During an interview with Radio Times, Daniel Craig revealed that he doesn't think James Bond should be played by a woman. Do you agree?

Daniel Craig

No Time To Die is Daniel Craig's last hurrah as the iconic agent 007. He now has to pass on the torch to someone else and he was recently asked what he thinks about that person being a woman.

During an interview with Radio Times, Craig said:

The answer to that is very simple. There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour. Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?

Lashana Lynch was first rumored to replace Daniel Craig as 007 but we now know that she is another agent and starred alongside Craig in No Time To Die. It is possible that Lynch's character could take over the 007 codename and get her very own film in the James Bond universe. If that happens then it would make sense in the general scheme of things as it is will be a continuation of the story. Someone has to save the world from psychopathic villains. With this, Lynch's character can step into her own light, instead of replacing the entire lamp...if you know what I mean.

Lashana Lynch as an agent in No Time To Die

When the rumors began circulating about Lynch becoming the next 007, the internet was awash with hate. In November 2020, Lynch responded to the hate saying:

I am one Black woman -- if it were another Black woman cast in the role, it would have been the same conversation, she would have got the same attacks, the same abuse. I just have to remind myself that the conversation is happening and that I’m a part of something that will be very, very revolutionary.

There's also word going around that Idris Elba is being considered to become the next James Bond. Nothing is confirmed as of now.

Whether the next James Bond is black or female, it is evident that the franchise is attempting to diversify its cast and crew.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge joined the film's crew to help with the script and Craig only has good things to say about the Fleabag star.

She’s got devilish humour. Her influence permeates a lot of this film. She walked that fantastic line of keeping it as a thriller and being very funny. But Phoebe didn’t come in to change Bond. She came in to spice it up for sure, but she’s a Bond fan – she wasn’t about to take him in a different direction.

For whoever takes over the role of James Bond, Craig only has one piece of advice to them.

Don't f**k it up. It's a beautiful, beautiful, amazing thing. Leave it better than when you found it.

No Time To Die is set to hit theaters on October 8th, 2021.
