Will there be season 4 of DanMachi?
This article was recently reviewed and is up to date as of April 5, 2021.
DanMachi, also known as Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, is an anime series based on a Japanese light novel series written by Fujino Ōmori and illustrated by Suzuhito Yasuda.
The anime TV adaptation first aired in 2015 and has since gathered several international fans who patiently wait for each new episode.
Season 3 dropped just a few months ago on Crunchyroll in October 2020, and fans are already wondering if season 4 is happening.
Here's what we know so far.
Season 4 Renewal Status: Renewed
DanMachi season 4 is officially happening! We received the renewal announcement alongside a short teaser trailer in January 2021.
You can check out the teaser trailer at the bottom of this article.
Season 3 released in October 2020, thanks (but no thanks) to the Covid-19 pandemic that delayed the anime series from its original July 2020 schedule. The finale of season 3 aired on December 18.
DanMachi is not really among the best anime out there, but it has its unique charm that captured the viewer’s attention with every new episode.
Although the anime series only gets an average rating, it still somehow managed to get an active fanbase, who still hopes for a fourth season.
Initial Release Date: 2022
The fourth season of the anime series is coming in 2022, although the exact date is yet to be announced.
Before the Covid-19 pandemic, DanMachi had an active history of releasing new seasons and OVA in the past, sometimes with only a few months gap between each project.
The TV adaptation by J.C. Staff premiered in Japan from April 4 to June 27, 2015, followed by an OVA released on December 7, 2016.
A film titled Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?: Arrow of the Orion was released on February 15, 2019. Then fans were treated to season 2 of the anime series from July 13 to September 28, 2019.
On September 27, 2019, a day before the anime series ran the last season 2 episode, a third anime season and an OVA episode were announced to be underway.
As mentioned, season 3 was supposed to air in July, but the pandemic delayed the release date to October 2020.
Without the pandemic in the picture, it would've been possible for season 4 to drop in 2021 based on the previous project's schedule.
DanMachi is set in a fictional city of Orario, where the gods come down to seek excitement, limiting their divine powers to experience the hardships of the mere mortals.
Somewhere in Orario exists an underground labyrinth called dungeons, a dangerous place filled with monsters but also loaded with treasures for those who could defeat them.
Adventurers who could defeat the monsters could take treasures and crystal shards, which they could use to craft magic items or use as currency in the real world.
Among these adventurers is the protagonist Bell Cranel, a 14-year-old solo explorer under the goddess Hestia.
Bell is in love and is searching for a skilled swordswoman who once saved his life, unaware that other girls in the dungeon, including goddess Hestia herself, are also slowly falling for him.
Season 3 broadened the anime series' plotline, bringing in new characters and stories that fans didn't expect.
It is impossible to predict what season 4 will be exactly all about. Albeit, it will surely revolve around Bell and his exciting adventures.
Here is the official teaser trailer for DanMachi season 4.
We will continue to update this page once we get more information, so make sure to check back from time to time.
The anime series is available for streaming on Crunchyroll.
