Disney cartoons, movies, and shows have been loved by adults, kids, and teens for more than a decade now. Even today, the fondness for Disney entertainment is so profound that most of the classic movies are getting a remake today. Talking about classic movies, how can we not mention the '101 Dalmations'? The classic movie is believed to be getting a live-action remake, and yes, the day just couldn't get any better!
The film garnered love and admiration and also enjoyed an IRL back in 1996. Therefore, Disney now wants to take a different approach to make '101 Dalmations' instead of going for a direct remake. It is believed that Disney is looking for a feature-length origin story of the original's iconic villain, the devil Cruella de Vil. Even though there isn't much solid information about the remake of Cruella as it is still early days for it, there is some information on which we can throw some light upon.
The production of Cruella is still in its starting days because of which fans were shocked to see its name when Disney unexpectedly dropped the movie's release date in an official schedule for the next few years. Having said that, we can expect the movie to hit the theaters on December 23, 2020. It is going to be a Cruella-Christmas!
To be Cruella is not an easy job for sure. The new dog-hating fashionista has to be a classic actress just like Glenn Close who nailed the original live-action remake released in 1996. Someone who knows the best and can slay an evil role would be Emma Stone, who is linked to star as the leading lady. She is burdened with a diverse range of experience and fans also believe Stone will be the right one to play a fur-lined glove. However, no one has heard anything official from the actress herself.
Alongside Emma Stone, another rumored actress who will be starring in the movie is Emma Thompson. According to Variety, the Harry Potter star is undergoing thorough conversation and she might also be pondering over joining Stone for the project. However, no one knows what character she will be playing in the movie. Emma Thompson has already swept everyone off their feet with her impeccable acting in live-action Disney flicks, which includes, Mrs. Potts in the 2017 'Beauty and the Beast' and as Mary Poppins author PL Travers in 'Saving Mr. Banks'.
No other name is yet attached with the movie's cast. Off the camera, Tonya's Craig Gillespie is reportedly directing the project. However, Mozart in the Jungle co-creator, Alex Timbers was to go on with the directing process but had to drop the project due to scheduling conflicts.
As we said, the movie is still in its infancy stage, therefore, expecting any sort of teaser or trailer before 2020 mid-year would be too much to ask for.
The official synopsis reads, “A live-action prequel feature film following a young Cruella de Vil.” According to Hollywood Reporter. The origin of the story will be set in the early 1980s with a new punk-rock update on the classic tale, which means, fans will be taken back to the early years where they will get to know about how Cruella's evil motives to kill and kidnap dogs came from. There will be more information surfacing in the coming months when the production team starts assigning roles to actors.
