The Friends sitcom is coming back folks! Are you excited about it?
It's official! Our favorite sitcom of all time, Friends, is making a comeback in a reunion special. We've heard whispers and rumors about this before but never an official confirmation. But today, I'm pleased to announce that Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry will be reuniting for a special for HBO Max.
The reunion will be very special to the fans of the show as it will be for the show's 25th anniversary. All six of the stars will return to the original soundstage, Stage 24, on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank, and will reportedly get somewhere between $3-$4 million each. The original creators, Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman, and David Crane will also be returning to produce the show.
This isn't the only good news coming with the 25th-anniversary celebrations. We can also expect all 236 episodes of the show to be available to subscribers of HBO Max when it is launched in May. What was once Netflix's most-watched shows will now be available on HBO Max. The HBO streaming service paid a crazy $425 million for the rights to the show.
Kevin Reilly, who is the chief content officer of HBO Max and president of TBS, TNT, and truTV, said:
Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together – we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library.
I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation.
It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.
This has been a rumor for quite some time, especially after the stars reunited on a number of occasions on Social Media. Now, it's no longer a rumor. It's happening and we can actually get excited about it now.
