An exciting potential showdown is brewing between Chucky and M3GAN, both belonging to NBCUniversal. Chucky faces an existential crisis, setting the stage for this epic battle.
If you ever heard someone talk about a scary doll, you'd probably think of Chucky from Child's Play. But in recent times, there's another doll in town making a big impact, and that's M3GAN. And guess what, there's talk about a showdown between these two iconic dolls, much like Freddy vs. Jason! According to an interview with Chucky showrunner Don Mancini, when asked about the possibility of Chucky vs. M3GAN, he simply said, "I would say, stay tuned."
Fans have been buzzing about the idea of Chucky facing off with the new-generation killer doll ever since the first M3GAN trailer dropped. But is this match-up really going to happen?
Chucky is practically a horror legend by this point. He was introduced in the original Child's Play movie as a psycho killer who used voodoo magic to transfer his consciousness into a doll. Despite being seemingly destroyed numerous times, Chucky keeps coming back for more murderous mayhem, just like any great horror icon.
On the other hand, M3GAN is a different kind of doll. Instead of housing a human consciousness, M3GAN is portrayed as an artificially intelligent doll who embarks on a killing spree once she becomes self-aware. In terms of their motivations, they're like two sides of the same coin. Chucky is a human turned doll, and M3GAN is a doll who becomes a bit too human. Both find their pleasure in sadistically murdering as many people as they can.
So, considering their similarities, these two characters seem like a perfect match for an onscreen showdown. But is it really happening? Well, the odds are looking better than you might expect because both Chucky and M3GAN belong to NBCUniversal. That means there wouldn't be any complex negotiations required to arrange a cinematic face-off.
What's interesting is that this potential showdown aligns with the existential crisis Chucky is facing in the third season of his hit TV show. In the latest season, Chucky appears to be aging and, oddly enough, even seems to be dying. According to Don Mancini, the mastermind behind Chucky, the Chucky vs. M3GAN concept makes sense because a more vulnerable Chucky has to "contend with legitimate new contenders to the throne like M3GAN and Annabelle." Don't expect Chucky to go soft, though. Mancini points out that these crises give Chucky real pain and real-life struggles, making him angrier, and we all know what happens when Chucky gets angry.
The format of Chucky vs. M3GAN is still a mystery. We don't know if it will be a movie, a spinoff series, or just a Chucky cameo. Regardless, the idea has us excited. When Freddy vs. Jason came out, it was hilariously entertaining while paying homage to the Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th franchises. We can only hope that this new title bout will be equally entertaining. One thing's for sure; we're placing our bets on Chucky because, after all, he's our "friend 'til the end."
