Chadwick Boseman seems to be on a mission to single handledly diversify Hollywood's casts. Check out the article to hear about his uncoming projects.
According to reports from Deadline, Chadwick Boseman of Avengers: Endgame and Black Panther has been selected to play Yasuke who is the first African Samurai in 16th century Japan.
The outlet had the following to say about Yasuke:
A native of Portuguese Mozambique who was brought to Japan as a slave to Jesuit missionaries. The first black man to set foot on Japanese soil. Yasuke’s arrival aroused the interest of Nobunaga, aruthless warlord seeking to unite the fractured country under his banner. A complex friendship developed between the two men as Yasuke earned Nobunga’s friendship, respect – and ultimately, the honor, swords and the title of samurai.
This movie definitely sounds like a unique and interesting take on a concept as old as the Japenese samurai.
This is what Chadwick Boseman had to say about the legend of Yasuke:
The legend of Yasuke is one of history’s best-kept secrets, the only person of non-Asian origin to become a Samurai. That’s not just an action movie, that’s a cultural event, an exchange, and I’m excited to be part of it.
The script for this action and drama pack samurai movie is currently being written by Doug Miro of Narcos. The director of the film has not been selected and we are all excited and waiting to see who else will be in a film. We will next see Boseman in an action film called 21 Bridges which is about an NYPD detective that puts the entire city of New York on lockdown in order to defeat a gang of bloodthirsty cop killers
21 Bridges official synopsis:
21 BRIDGES follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him.
