Brie Larson's superhero sequel is in the works. Get all the latest updates here.
Brie Larson will don her superhero ensemble once more as she takes back the Captain Marvel role for 'Captain Marvel 2'.
The sequel was confirmed to be in the works back in January 2020, with Megan McDonnell writing the script.
From hiring Marvel's first female Black director to all the exciting casting details, here's everything we know about 'Captain Marvel 2'.
'Captain Marvel 2' is scheduled for release on November 11, 2022.
The sequel already suffered delays. It was previously announced to release on July 8, 2022, after Disney moved around the release dates for Marvel Phase 4 following the delay of Black Widow to November 2020.
Filming has not begun yet, and we still don't know when it's going to start. Hence, fans better brace themselves for other possible delays.
The sequel is still in the early stages, so casting details are still limited. But we do know that Brie Larson will be back for the titular role of Captain Marvel AKA Carol Danvers.
As much as we want to see Lashana Lynch's return as Maria Rambeau, there's a chance that there will be a recast for the role since the sequel will take a time jump of at least 20 years.
There were no major casualties in the first film, except Starforce member Minn-Erva (Gemma Chan), so she's about the only character that we can safely say won't be coming back.
On the other hand, there have been a couple of changes in the production team. Candyman director Nia Da Costa is replacing co-writers and co-directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck for the sequel.
This is a historic feat for Da Costa, who will be the first Black woman to direct a Marvel movie.
Meanwhile, Monica Rambeau has already been recast in the MCU, with Teyonah Parris set to play her adult version in WandaVision. Paris is confirmed to return for her role in 'Captain Marvel 2'.
The film's setting will reportedly be moved from the 1990s of the original movie to the present day.
However, aside from that information, most of the plot details for the upcoming sequel remains unknown. Well, this is understandable since filming hasn't even begun yet.
Nevertheless, lead star Brie Larson treated us to some sweet teasers.
The actress shared a screenshot of her conversation with 'Captain Marvel 2' director Nia DaCosta, which reveals that they are ready for the film.
The film is still two years away from now, so we're hoping to get more plot details in the upcoming months.
It's going to be a long wait, that's for sure. With the current global situation, delays are still likely to happen.
Nevertheless, we'll continue to be on the look for the latest news for you.
