Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello have split up. They announced their decision by publishing a joint statement on social media. After being in a relationship for about two years, the two Grammy-nominated singers have decided to part ways amicably.

Taking to their respective Instagram stories, Mendes and Cabello wrote: "Hey guys, we've decided to end our romantic relationship but our love for one another as humans is stronger than ever. We started our relationship as best friends and will continue to be best friends." The statement went on to say: "We so appreciate your support from the beginning and moving forward."

The two were first spotted together in each other's arms out in LA. This was just around the time they released their hit collaboration song, Señorita. When paparazzi questioned Mendes if the pair's PDA was a publicity stunt to promote the song, he had responded, "We’re definitely not a publicity stunt." There was also the music video itself with the heavy making out that hinted at their relationship. They had been inseparable since then and even seemed to spend a fun Halloween together in matching Folklorico outfits, honoring the Day of the Dead. The split does seem out of the blue.

Cabello had, in August, even clarified rumors of being engaged after being spotted with a ring on her finger. “I swear to God, I don’t know what hand the engagement ring goes on, so sometimes I’ll just, like, put it on ring finger,” she explained to Jimmy Fallon, as per Page Six. The pandemic had brought the two together as they moved to Miami to be with the Cabello family. Mendes had described it as a "really beautiful experience" adding, "That was the best gift I think I've ever, ever been given in my whole life."

Cabello too had wonderful things to say about her relationship with Mendes and stated: "When you're in a relationship with someone, it feels like they are this mirror reflecting yourself back to you—I constantly have to confront my fears, my anxieties, my insecurities, my patterns of thinking, my beliefs about life and about myself. It's not as simple as it looks in pictures sometimes. sometimes, it's messy and uncomfortable and ugly lol. But there's nothing like the pull, the FORCE that is love." The two were couple goals as they strolled hand-in-hand throughout the pandemic.

There were rumors flying around after an unverified celebrity gossip page shared news of a person overhearing that Cabello had broken things off with Mendes, as reported by ELLE. Mendes had even opened up about their dynamic in private and had said, “We definitely fight, and we get in like the worst little arguments, but like, I think that we definitely are pretty good at picking up on when it's just ego talking.” He continued, “And we usually like, call each other out. It's we have a really honest and open relationship, but, but yeah, no, we definitely fight. I think like, especially like, I think the longer the relationship goes, it's like the easier it seems to be to fight. So, yeah, it's definitely not that holding hands all the time, but we're really good with each other. It never gets bad. It's always like a little fight.”
