Halle Berry picks up the gloves and takes the directorial chair in the sports-drama film 'Bruised'.
Halle Berry stars as an aging MMA fighter, who puts everything on the line to win the biggest battle of her life.
'Bruised' serves as Halle Berry's directorial debut. The screenplay is written by Michelle Rosenfarb, with Thunder Road Pictures, Entertainment 360, and Romulus Entertainment handling the production.
Here is everything you need to know about 'Bruised'.
Halle Berry's sports-drama film will release on Netflix on Wednesday, November 24th, 2021.
The film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September last year.
'Bruised' has a confirmed run time of 129 minutes.
The movie centers around a disgraced MMA fighter named Jackie Justice (Halle Berry). She is on a mission to win back the custody of her 6-year-old son, and revive a dormant career. Jackie is no longer in her prime. She is aging, and there are plenty of fresh and strong athletes on the ring.
Jackie gets pit against one of the sport's fastest rising stars, and she must do her best to win the fight, both in and out of the ring.
Expect plenty of brutal and raw action as Halle Berry worked so hard to bring a realistic mix-martial-arts action on the ring. The actress broke two ribs on the first day of shooting.
“I told the director about it, they told the insurance. We had to shut down for months and it was a big ordeal,” Berry told EW. “On this, because it was an independent movie, we didn’t have a big budget. The director in me said, ‘I didn’t come this far and work this hard to go home.’ “
Halle Berry leads the cast list as Jackie Justice, the aging MMA fighter who is doing her best to get back on her feet. Halle Berry is best known for playing the titular role in the 2004 superhero film 'Catwoman'.
Nick Cassavetes was previously attached to direct the film while Blake Lively was originally cast to play Jackie. Halle Berry eventually took over the director's chair and replaced Lively for the lead role.
Joining Berry are 'Designated Survivor' actor Adan Canto as Desi, 'Stowaway' star Shamier Anderson as MMA League Owner, and 'Twelfth Night' actress Sheila Atim as Bobbi Buddhakan Berroa.
'Fences' star Stephen McKinley Henderson plays Pops. Ice Age's Denny Dillon stars as Crazy Esther. Daredevil's Nikolai Nikolaeff plays Igor. Stranger Things' Danny Boyd Jr. plays Manny Lyons Jr.
Luke Cage's Delissa Reynolds will portray Mrs. Feelgood. UFC stars Valentina Schevchenko and Amanda Nunes are also appearing in the film.
