‘Britannia’ Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

Britannia is a historical fantasy drama set in 43 AD when the Romans invaded Britain. It was created by Jez Butterworth and Tom Butterworth as the first co-production between Sky and Amazon Prime Video back in 2018. The show has received a mostly positive response for managing to blend historical events with fantasy to create an interesting TV show.

The first season aired on Sky Atlantic and on Amazon Prime Video in January 2018. It was renewed for two more seasons following this. At the time of the renewal of the third season, Jez Butterworth had stated, “We’re very excited to be continuing our mythic journey through Ancient Britain. This year was a particularly good vintage for mushrooms here in the West Country, so we strongly suggest you hold on to your hats.”

But what is in store for the future of the show? Find out here:

Will There Be Season 4 Of Britannia?

Britannia has been officially canceled and will not be returning for a fourth season, leaving fans with a cliffhanging finale that may never get resolved.

The third season of the show premiered in September 2021.

What Could Have Been The Plot Of Britannia Season 4 Be?

At the end of the third season, we are left with a cliffhanger. Cait has a vision of Veran and another druid. She then comes to Rome to meet Lucius who is murdered after he tells her everything he knows about the spear. The traitor is revealed and the season ended with Cait being delivered to Aulus.

There are several revelations made in the third season. But there are various questions left unanswered which could have been the premise of the fourth season if it had gotten renewed. The fourth season could have also addressed how Cait may instigate the downfall of Rome by introducing Christianity. She may also discover the Spear and release Lokka from her body.

David Morrissey as Aulus Plautius and Eleanor Worthington Cox as Cait will surely be coming back to the next season if there ever is one and will be joined by Zoë Wanamaker as Queen Antedia, Julian Rhind-Tutt as Phelan, Mackenzie Crook as Veran, and Annabel Scholey as Amena. On the other hand, Hugo Speer as Lucius and Sophie Okonedo as Hemple will most likely not be coming back. We may also see some new faces according to how the plot develops. However, as of right now, the show has been cancelled and there is further developments. In case this changes, we’ll keep you posted.
