Rose and Anna missed their ultimate chance at survival. Will 'Black Summer'return for season 3? Here are all the details so far.
'Black Summer' season 2 gave the summer of 2021 a deadly and heart-pounding twist. The second season dropped eight new episodes on Netflix in June and sees the survivors continue to fight for their lives amidst a deadly zombie apocalypse. 'Black Summer' season 2 left plenty of cliffhangers, and as expected, fans are already asking for more. Let's find out what the future holds for Karl Schaefer and John Hyams' zombie apocalypse series.
We are still waiting for Netflix to announce an official renewal, but based on where season 2 ended, a follow-up season is likely. The second season of 'Black Summer' left so many things up in the air, which suggests that the creators are confident that Netflix would greenlight another season to continue the narrative.
Netflix often takes at least a month since release before renewing a show. Renewal for 'Black Summer' season 3 is taking longer compared to other shows, but it's worth noting that the previous season also took months before getting officially announced. So, we remain positive that season 3 will still arrive at some point. The second season of 'Black Summer' arrived on June 17, 2021, and as of August 2023, there is still no renewal announcement for season 3. We will update this space immediately once the show is renewed.
The first season of 'Black Summer' premiered on Netflix on April 11, 2019. Netflix has remained quiet regarding the show's future for several months, despite the positive audience reception when it arrived on the platform. Some people speculated that the series will no longer return since the last episode has pretty much wrapped up the story, but they were wrong. In November 2019, Netflix officially announced that season 2 is happening. Unfortunately, we had to wait for two years before getting a follow-up season. The production had also suffered setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Finally, in June 2021, 'Black Summer' season 2 arrived.
Based on that timeline, it's safe to say that a third season of 'Black Summer' will not be here at least until 2024.
Warning: Season 2 spoilers below.
Unlike the first season which had a seemingly definitive ending, the second season left a lot of loose threads. These cliffhangers can be a great jump-off point for 'Black Summer' season 3.
The second season focused on the survivors trying to get to the airstrip. They want to board the mysterious plane that drops supplies around the area, and hopefully, go somewhere safe. Only Sun managed to get into the plane among all the survivors that reached the airstrip. Where is the plane headed? Will Sun finally get to a place that isn't infected? We will have to wait for another season to find out. Unfortunately, the plane is just a temporary solution to the undead plague. We heard that the pilot has to stop to refuel, and who knows what challenges await them when they land.
Another question that has to get answered is Rose's fate. She was unable to board the plane after she injured her leg. Her daughter Anna chose to run back to her instead of boarding the plane and leaving her behind. Anna might be determined to do anything to survive, but Rose is losing some motivation. However, Rose's concerns are legit. Where will they go now that the plane is no longer an option? It seems like the Ski-Lodge is the best choice they have left. It isn't clear if Anna chose to leave her demotivated mother behind as she gets into a car.
The quest for survival shall continue. Hopefully, Netflix will renew 'Black Summer' for season 3 soon.
We are still waiting for Netflix to renew 'Black Summer' for season 3. Hence, there is still no official casting yet. However, if we speak of potential cast members to return, we are expecting the following actors/actresses to reprise their roles.
Jaime King will likely return as Rose, alongside Zoe Marlett as her daughter, Anna. Jesse Lipscombe also played a significant role in season 2 as Mance. His character survived unscathed until the second season's ending, so he is also very likely to come back.
Christine Lee will also likely reprise her role as Ooh "Sun" Kyungsun, after safely boarding the plane in season 2.
Ray (Bobby Naderi ) was severely injured when Rose used the flare guns to shoot the fuel barrels behind him. The explosion left him in critical condition, so it's uncertain if his character will survive to season 3.
Firstly, we need to get an official renewal. After that, the series will have to undergo production and editing before Netflix can release a trailer, about a month before the new season release. That whole process could take more than a year. We will continue to keep an eye on the latest updates and edit this article now and then. Feel free to get back to this link.
