This incredible comedy series sheds light on current events through the Johnson family.
Black-ish is created by Kenya Barris and follows the life of Andre “Dre” Johnson, a wealthy executive, and his family. According to The Guardian, the Johnsons are not a family who “happen to be black” but a family who are black. The show, which focuses a lot on social issues was loved by Obama and hated by Trump. Barris knew putting race at the center of a mainstream comedy was a risky move but it worked. “I was nervous,” he shared but “comedy is a good way to give people a spoonful of sugar with their medicine”. "I wanted to talk about my family,” he said. “The specific speaks to the universal, and the best story I knew was a family which was absolutely black, living in a world that was changing around them.” Fans love the show but will there be a season 8?
As fo now, season 7 of Black-ish is still currently airing on ABC. There are supposed to be 21 episodes in the 7th season. ABC has given a six-episode back order to the show which brings its total to 21, a full season, reports Deadline. According to Express UK, Black-ish will return for an eighth season premiering on Wednesday, August 18.
Not much has been revealed about the plotline for Season 8. But as usual, we're sure they'll be shedding a light on important social matters. Season 7 saw election specials, focusing on the 2020 presidential election. In a statement about the mass renewal made at the time, ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said, "At a time when we are physically apart and shared experiences matter more than ever, these shows will build on the strategy that has made us No. 1 this season — bringing people together, creating cultural moments and making content that entertains and inspires across generations and demographics. Our top priority now is to work with our studio partners to ensure a safe return to production so that we can build on the strong momentum of a winning lineup with measured bets on new series that will invigorate our air and continue to deliver the quality programming that our viewers have come to expect and love."
All the original members will likely return for the next season. So that means: Anthony Anderson as Andre “Dre” Johnson, Tracee Ellis Ross as Rainbow Johnson, Yara Shahidi as Zoey Johnson, Marcus Scribner as Andre Johnson Jr., Miles Brown as Jack Johnson, Marsai Martin as Diane Johnson, Laurence Fishburne as Pops, Jenifer Lewis as Ruby, Peter Mackenzie as Mr. Stevens, Deon Cole as Charlie Telphy and Jeff Meacham as Josh.
