The Barrises are coming back!
It has been a year since '#blackAF' released on Netflix, but we have not heard new updates from the show.
The sitcom/mockumentary series was applauded for its brutally honest and hilarious take on parenting, relationships, race, and culture.
The first season ended on a positive note, with the Barris reconciling their differences after taking a vacation.
Will there be a second season of '#blackAF'? Here is what we know.
It has been a while, but fans can rest assured that '#blackAF' will return for season 2.
The sitcom got renewed for season 2 in June 2020.
We still do not have recent updates about season 2's development, and we still have not heard if '#blackAF' has entered production as of this writing.
Netflix has not announced a release date for season 2 of '#blackAF' yet. As mentioned, there is still no news if the sitcom has finally begun filming for season 2.
The first season premiered on Netflix on April 17, 2020. It is unclear why the second season was unable to release by April this year, but we wouldn't be surprised if the show was affected by the Coronavirus pandemic.
We will update this space once the official release date is available.
'#blackAF' stars Kenya Barris as a fictionalized version of himself. Kenya lives with his wife Joya (Rashida Jones) and their children in Los Angeles.
The first season was full of hilarious scenes depicting the complexities of their modern life as a 'new money' black family trying to make things right. It tackles topics surrounding parenting, relationship, culture, and race. The show is presented in a mockumentary style, with Kenya’s daughter Drea (played by Iman Benson) narrating.
The hilarious series takes inspiration from Kenya's personal experiences.
Throughout the first season, Kenya has tried to handle the rising conflict between him, his wife, and his family in general. They decided that they all needed a vacation to cool things off and booked a family trip to Fiji.
Kenya became upset when he discovered that Joya chose Fiji because of her book signing schedule. However, while watching an episode he wrote for 'Black-ish,' Kenya realized that he must try to make things better for their marriage.
He attends Joya's book signing, apologized, and told her he is proud of her for finding out a career path for herself.
The first season ended on a positive note, with the Barris family resolving their familial conflict.
The second season will likely introduce a new problem for the Barris family to overcome.
We are expecting to see the Barris back for season 2. They are:
Kenya Barris as Kenya Barris, Black-ish creator and patriarch of the Barris family
Rashida Jones as Joya Barris, Kenya's wife
Iman Benson as Drea Barris, the narrator of the show
Genneya Walton as Chloe Barris, effortlessly famous, under appreciative college student. She has an extreme sense of entitlement.
Scarlet Spencer as Izzy Barris- an extremely difficult and hard to handle teenager.
Justin Claiborne as Pops Barris, who is described as a lovable and gullible member of the Barris.
Ravi Cabot-Conyers as Kam Barris, who is described as a "trouble maker and a pathological liar."
With no production update available, it's hard to predict when Netflix will release the '#blackAF' season 2 trailer. We will update this space once the official trailer is available. In the meantime, here's the season 1 trailer for you. Are you excited for '#blackAF,' too? Share your thoughts!
