A 'Bird Box' spinoff film is in the works. Here are all the latest details.
Netflix has finally revealed details we need of the 'Bird Box' spinoff movie. The spinoff is a Spanish movie and should've entered production in November 2021. The movie's setting is in Barcelona, Spain and its casts are Latin actors. Moreover, the Spanish duo Alex and David Pastor are writing the film. Dylan Clark, Chris Morgan, Adrian Guerra, Nuria Valls are the producers.
Here is everything you need to know about the upcoming spinoff, including release date, plot, cast, and more.
The 'Bird Box' spinoff will take us to a different place and feature new characters.
It follows Sebastian and his young daughter Anna as they try to survive in the desolate streets of Barcelona following the mysterious apocalypse that causes people to commit suicide.
Here is the official synopsis via Deadline.
"After a mysterious force decimates the world's population by causing all who see it to take their lives, Sebastian and his young daughter Anna must navigate their journey of survival through the desolate streets of Barcelona. But as they form an uneasy alliance with other survivors and make their way toward a safe haven, a threat more sinister than the unseen creatures grows."
The original movie Bird Box follows a woman named Malorie Hayes. Malorie was a Survivor of the Apocalyptic event where mysterious creatures cause people to commit suicide once they look at them. The deeper story was an oscillating look at Malorie's past pre-apocalypse vs. her current situation. She is a mother of two, and she's trying to take her children to a refuge. The premise can open larger doors for a much bigger plot in the Bird Box universe.
Here's who will be in the 'Bird Box' sequel. Georgina Campbell, Mario Casas, Diego Calva, Alejandra Howard, Naila Schuberth, Cekua Freijeiro, Patrick Criado, Lola Dueñas, Gonzaldo de Castro, Michelle Jenner and Leonardo Sbaraglia will star in the upcoming movie.
In an interview, Netflix's Vice President of Film EMEA, David Kosse, said
"The original 2018 Bird Box continues to be one of the most popular films on Netflix, and our new Spanish-language project presents an innovative way to expand the Bird Box universe. Alex and David Pastor presented an idea that will tell a broader story that we think that fans of the first film will enjoy."
"Bird Box became a worldwide phenomenon for being an intensely emotional story of a mother and her children fighting to survive a terrifying apocalypse. In our new chapter, our incredible filmmakers Alex and David Pastor are boldly expanding Bird Box in a globally-connected way that only Netflix can deliver. The result is an intense, unexpected survival story with familial emotion and heart. I can't wait for audiences around the world to see the surprising mysteries that unfold on the streets of Barcelona." Chris Morgan, The American screenwriter, and producer added.
There is no release date yet. The 'Bird Box' spinoff was penciled to begin production in November last year. So far, we haven't seen any footage of the sequel yet. If production began in November as planned, that means that the movie will most likely come out in 2022, probably in the second or third quarter. We will update this space once we get more details.
Trailers often drop a month before the eventual release of a title on Netflix. We expect the trailer to release sometime this year, too. We will make sure to share the official trailer of the spinoff with you once it is available. So, feel free to go back to this link in the future.
