Colleen Atwood, the costume designer for the upcoming film Beetlejuice 2, has shared exciting insights about the movie. She mentioned that the sequel will explore the evolution of the original characters over the 30-year gap since the original Beetlejuice film.

Tim Burton's Beetlejuice 2, a highly anticipated sequel to the iconic afterlife comedy, is nearing completion. Although the film experienced delays due to both a writers' strike and an actors' strike, Burton remains determined to bring the project to fruition. He expressed gratitude for the progress they've made, despite the challenges. Burton stated, "I feel grateful we got what we got. Literally, it was a day and a half…We know what we have to do. It is 99 percent done." While the writers' strike has concluded, negotiations with the actors are set to resume shortly. Key cast members, including Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton, will reprise their roles, with Keaton returning as the iconic "ghost with the most."

Joining Burton's team for this sequel is Jenna Ortega, and the film promises to catch up audiences on the characters' lives after a 30-year gap. Colleen Atwood, who worked as a costume designer on the film, revealed this intriguing detail during an interview with ScreenRant. Atwood shared, "Well, you're gonna see some old friends in the costume world. There's a real homage to Beetlejuice, the original, and then you'll see the journey that those people have made in the 30 years since Beetlejuice. It's been a while. So, it's a fun process, I think the audience is gonna love it, it's really fun."

In addition to this exciting character evolution, Burton is taking a different approach to the special effects in Beetlejuice 2. Known for his extensive use of CGI in recent films, such as the Disney live-action adaptation of Dumbo, Burton is returning to the basics with practical effects for this movie. He shared his enthusiasm for this change, stating, "On this last one, Beetlejuice 2, I really enjoyed it. I tried to strip everything and go back to the basics of working with good people and actors and puppets. It was kind of like going back to why I liked making movies."

While the specific plot of the sequel remains shrouded in secrecy, the cinematographer involved in the project emphasized that at its core, Beetlejuice 2 is a story about a family. With 30 years having passed since the events of the original film, the sequel explores the intricacies of maintaining family bonds in a world as wild and unpredictable as the one inhabited by Beetlejuice and his spectral cohorts. This emphasis on the human connection within the context of an extraordinary world resonates with Burton's approach to storytelling. He views the exploration of the human condition as a key element in his choice of projects. This promise of character evolution make Beetlejuice 2 a movie to watch out for, especially for fans of the original cult classic.
