It has been over a decade since James Cameron's Avatar took the world by storm. The 3D film was praised for its storyline, the special effects, and even broke several box office records to become the highest-grossing film at the time.

The much-awaited sequel will finally be released later this year and the film's teaser trailer is finally here. In April, the title of the second installment was revealed as Avatar: The Way of Water. The first 3D footage was also revealed by producer Jon Landau along with a more detailed picture of the film's plot was also shared at CinemaCon 2022.

The teaser starts off with stunning shots of the landscape of Pandora that we will be revisiting nearly a decade after the events of the first film. The crystal clear and blue waters of the planet as well as the unique creatures of the planet make an appearance, as the story follows the Sully family — Jake, Neytiri, and their kids. It gives us a glimpse of the trouble that will soon follow them, the lengths they will go to keep each other safe, the battles they will fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they must endure. "I know one thing..." Jake says in the trailer, "wherever we go, this family is our fortress." You can watch the trailer here:

Landau also announced that to refresh our collective memories of what happened in the first Avatar movie, it will be re-released in theaters on September 23, with restored picture and sound. “We need to make sure [audiences] have an experience they can’t get anywhere else, and that needs to be exclusively in theaters,” Landau said in the Caesars Palace’s Colosseum at CinemaCon. We will now be seeing the trailer run exclusively in cinemas along with Marvel’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Avatar: The Way of Water is set to release on December 16, 2022.

"There's a tremendous amount of waterwork across Avatar 2 and 3," Cameron had said in 2017. "It's ongoing into 4 and 5, but the emphasis is on 2 and 3." Following the success of the first Avatar film, four sequels were ordered by 20th Century Fox.  We will see Zoe Saldana and Sam Worthington reprising their roles in the sequel along with Stephen Lang, Giovanni Ribisi, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, CCH Pounder, and Matt Gerald. “The journey across all four movies will create a connected saga,” Landau stated. “To achieve our goals, we need a strong partnership with you and the studio … an end-to-end community.”
