Avatar 2 has been plagued with delays and the Coronavirus pandemic has added to them all. But it brings me great delight to announce that production is set to continue next week
The movie industry has been put on pause worldwide due to the.....you know why. Things are only now beginning to stabilize as we see countries around the world resuming life as per usual. New Zealand is one of those countries and they are now making their beautiful lush green available for the filming of the Avatar sequels once again.
On May 23rd, the Avatar 2 producer John Landau confirmed on an Instagram post that some of the crew were heading back to New Zealand, with the captions: "sets are ready… and we couldn’t be more excited"
Landau told RNZ that a small crew will be used to resume production, only those essential for filming, with each going into quarantine for a fortnight before. He said:
We’re bringing back far fewer people than we had last year when we were filming. We’re bringing really those who are essential to our filming needs.
He went on to explain:
We feel very comfortable because of the actions of your government and also the responsibility the people took to really curb the virus there. So we feel we're coming back to the safest place in the world possible thanks to a team of people that we've worked with. We believe we have a very thoughtful, detailed and diligent safety plan that will keep everybody as safe as possible in these unprecedented times.
It's been 11 years since we last saw our favorite blue-colored friends (sorry smurfs). The last time we saw them they managed to take the world by storm, grossing a titanic $2.78 billion at the box office. This was the highest tally ever made by a movie in the box office till Avengers: Endgame came and surpassed it with $2.79 billion.
The next Avatar film is set to hit theaters December 17, 2021, with the original cast of Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang set to return. The Titanic star Kate Winslet has been added to the cast.

Fun fact: Much of the performance capture took place in this 900,000 gallon tank, built specifically for the sequels. pic.twitter.com/NSfqoZ6jXJ
This is the story of the Sully family and what one does to keep their family together. Jake and Neytiri have a family in this movie, they are forced to leave their home, they go out and explore the different regions of Pandora, including spending quite a bit of time on the water, around the water, in the water.
I think, why do people turn to entertainment today, more so than ever? I think it’s to escape, to escape the world we’re in, to escape the other pressures they have in their lives.
