'Assassin's Creed' Live-Action Netflix Series: Everything We Know So Far

Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of the action-adventure video game and here's what we know so far.

Assassin's Creed initially started off as an action-adventure video game by Ubisoft. The games are set in an open world where the characters have to finish quests in historical settings. The first game was released in 2007, while the latest one, called Assassin's Creed Valhalla, was released in 2020. There have been 12 games in total with the same number of spin-offs as well. The success of the video game led to the adaptation of the games into other forms of media, including films, comics, novels, and TV series. The first adaptation into a series was in an anime format and was created by Adi Shankar.

Later, Netflix announced a live-action adaptation of the game, and here's everything you need to know about it.

What Is The Plot Of Assassin's Creed Live-Action Series?

The series in development is said to be an "epic, genre-bending live-action adaptation." Although the exact plot of the show is not revealed as yet, there is a chance that stories in two or three of the video games can be adapted. The series may have an anthology approach to use a storyline across all the available content. It is also unclear if it will be set in the past or present.

Peter Friedlander, VP, Original Series, Netflix had stated, "We're excited to partner with Ubisoft and bring to life the rich, multilayered storytelling that Assassin's Creed is beloved for. From its breathtaking historical worlds and massive global appeal as one of the best-selling video game franchises of all time, we are committed to carefully crafting epic and thrilling entertainment based on this distinct IP and providing a deeper dive for fans and our members around the world to enjoy."

Who Is Cast In Assassin's Creed Live-Action Series?

It is still unclear what characters will be in the show and who will be cast in the same. But the show will be executively produced by Ubisoft Film & Television's Jason Altman and Danielle Kreinik. Jeb Stuart, best known for writing blockbuster action films like Die Hard and The Fugitive, was recruited as writer and showrunner. "We really were excited about him because he's part of the Netflix family already," Kreinik told Variety in an interview, referring to Stuart's Vikings: Valhalla. "He's got a breadth of knowledge when it comes to history, so he is the right person, we felt, because he really understands historical drama, and we think he's going to be a great asset to the Assassin's Creed universe."

When Will Assassin's Creed Live-Action Series Be Released?

The live-action series was announced last year and since then, little has been said about the Netflix and Assassin's Creed collaboration. There are chances that the series may be released in 2022 as more details will be revealed as the time comes.

There is no official trailer for the live-action series but Netflix Geeked did share this promotional collaboration teaser.
