Arnold Schwarzenegger Pranks Danny DeVito Ahead of Twins 2 Production

Filming for the 'Twins' sequel starring Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger and Tracy Morgan has not started yet, but the pranks have already begun.

It's been a while since the unlikely duo of Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger brought the twins to life under the leadership of Ivan Reitman, the director of 'Ghostbusters.'

There have been countless rumors in the last three decades about a 'Twins' sequel, but it never happened.

Just as when we were about to lose hope, we get great news last month officially announcing that a sequel, 'Triplets' is in the works.

The sequel will bring back the unlikely siblings, and they will be joined by an equally mismatched brother to be played by the ever-hilarious Tracy Morgan.

The leading movie cast members are now older, but that doesn't mean they are letting go of their inner child.

Recently, Arnold Schwarzenegger posted a video via his YouTube channel showing DeVito receiving a gift from his old co-star.

He quickly realizes that the present was not all it seemed to be. Check out the hilarious video below.

While filming will only start next year, the stars have already teamed up with Reitman to promote the film in progress. Schwarzenegger explained the story behind his witty prank on DeVito in his newsletter (via CinemaBlend):

"This month I also got together with my friend Danny DeVito to promote our movie Triplets!" Terminator actor Arnie wrote. "Ivan Reitman, our director who you know from Twins, Kindergarten Cop, and Ghostbusters, wanted to get us together with our new, third brother, Tracy Morgan over Zoom. Naturally, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to bring back a prank Danny pulled on me all those years ago on the set of Twins. You may remember the story about Danny putting marijuana in my cigar. Well, this time we turned the tables! We waited until the end of the shoot and gave Danny the gift. But unfortunately, he still has the nose of a bloodhound and sniffed out the special ingredient right away. Here is the video of me giving him the cigar. I'm still waiting on Danny to send me the video of him giving it a try later that night."

Reitman spoke to Deadline last month about how the idea for Triplets started with a meeting between big Arnie and Murphy.

"Twins was quite successful, and some years after, this whole thing started with Arnold meeting Eddie Murphy, and the suggestion came from one of them," Reitman said. "It was, 'I should be a triplet, that could be a very funny comedy.' We started a script with Eddie, and after the success, he had with Amazon Prime on Coming 2 America, he got himself booked up heavily. And we knew we were going to make it at the beginning of next year. I'd been good friends with Tracy Morgan for a long time and always thought he was one of the funniest men in the world. I thought he would make a terrific triplet, and we rewrote the whole script for him. Now, we'll go out and try and put the money together and get it made."

'Twins' earned $216 million back in 1988, and it was a global hit for Universal. Although it seemed like a sequel is already secured, Reitman explained that the movie never happened in the past due to two reasons.

Twins

First, there are tight restrictions for a sequel having to get made very rapidly. Next, Universal did not want to take the risk as they felt the sequel was not fully developed yet at the time.

"In terms of future rights, Universal had very restrictive secondary rights in terms of successors " he explained. "They had to act on it very quickly, which they didn't because we hadn't really developed it."

Well, lucky for us fans. Things have significantly changed now. There is a which Reitman explained in the same interview.

"Secretly, there was a third baby born, a Black baby, who hasn't been in touch with his siblings," Reitman explained.

"They don't know each other and very early in the movie they meet and it's how they achieve a bond together after all these years. It's really a film about family and, no matter how different we all are, we have to learn to get along. These guys have great chemistry together, and you can see that in the reel, and how much energy they bring out in each other."

Well, judging from the short prank, Reitman isn't mistaken. The original cast still has the ability to catch each other off-guard. That can only mean good things for 'Triplets.' The sequel has no official release date yet but it is expected to arrive sometime in 2023.
