'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania': Everything We Know So Far

The third installment in the 'Ant-Man' finally enters production. Here are the latest updates.

After almost three years since the sequel 'Ant-Man and the Wasp' was released, the third outing in the 'Ant-Man' film series is finally underway.

Officially titled 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania', the film will introduce a new deadly villain for our superhero duo to face.

'Ant-Man' 3 was first announced in 2019, but it was not able to get into production as originally planned due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Principal photography for 'Ant-Man' 3 finally commenced in July. Here is everything we know about 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania'.

When Will 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania' Release?

Release Date: February 17, 2023

'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania' is currently scheduled to come out on February 17, 2023. Marvel Studios announced the film's official release date and the rest of the upcoming movies in the MCU.

'Quantumania' is released almost 5 years after the second 'Ant-Man' film premiered. This is one of the longest gaps between installments recorded in the MCU.

Filming for 'Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania' is expected to begin on May 31 to September 24 in London and Atlanta, as per a Production List.

However, it wasn't until July 26, 2021, that we received a confirmation that principal photography for the film has finally begun. Director Peyton Reed shared the great news on Twitter with a photo of Cassie Lang’s ugly but lovable stuffed animal captioned: "It begins. Day One - Principal Photography."

Who Is Cast In 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania'?

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly are officially coming back for their roles Scott Lang, aka Ant-Man, and Hope van Dyne, aka The Wasp.

Previous cast members Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer will also be back as Hank Pym and Janet van Dyne.

Scott's daughter Cassie Lang will also be back. However, it won't be played by Avengers: Endgame's Emma Fuhrmann. The role was recast to accommodate the five years time jump from 'Avengers: Infinity War'.

"Thank you for all your support. It has meant the world to me. I was as sad as you all were to hear the news Thursday. I can only hope that this means there is something else for me in the future of the MCU," Fuhrmann wrote following the announcement.

"I will always be grateful to have been a part of the MCU & the biggest movie of all time. Being an actress is still my #1 passion & I look forward to what the future holds."

Big Little Lies star Kathryn Newton will take over the role of Cassie. Speaking of new cast members, Lovecraft Country's Jonathan Majors is also confirmed to join the cast list as Kang the Conqueror.

Don't expect to see Tip 'TI' Harris back as Scott's friend Dave though.

Harris and his wife are facing accusations of kidnapping, assault, false imprisonment, harassment, intimidation, and the forced ingestion of illegal drugs from several women. The couple vehemently denies the allegations. According to Variety, the decision is not related to the issues and that Harris "was never slated to return."

Those are the confirmed cast members so far. We are expecting to get more casting news as the film goes into production.

What Is The Plot Of 'Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania'?

Most of the plot details are kept under the rugs, but a few details are released that allow us to fire up some theories. Having Kang in the new film means that he could be the new central role for the third film.

The recent ending of 'Loki' Disney+ series seems to suggest that Kang will play a villainous role. After Sylvie killed He Who Remains, the timelines branched out like crazy, giving birth to the many versions of Emperor Kang. The version that will appear in 'Ant-Man' 3 seems to be  one of the evil versions of Kang.

However, we all know how Marvel can lead us to guess and surprise us at the last moment with an even bigger nemesis, so we'll have to keep our eyes open.

What we do know for sure is that Scott and Hope will continue to face whatever threats come their way, together.

"They're a partnership, and she's a very, very important part of that," director Peyton Reed explained to Yahoo. "And that was a very gratifying thing, I guess technically we were the first Marvel movie with a female hero in the title of the movie."

We'll surely get more information now that the film enters production.
