'Another' is a creepy, horror anime produced by P.A.Works and directed by Tsutomu Mizushima. The story follows a boy who transfers to a school with a dark past. A lover of horror, the boy starts looking for answers and develops a close friendship with a mysterious girl. The anime was released in 2012, and some fans are wondering if it is still returning. Here is what we know.
'Another' Season 1 premiered on January 12, 2012. The anime had a total of 12 episodes, which concluded on March 27, 2012. It has been eleven years, but until now, there is still no news about 'Another' season 2. It seems unlikely now for P.A. Works to produce a new season.
The anime is still not renewed as of this writing. Judging from the length of time since the previous season was released, it seems unlikely now to return. If the anime gets renewed by some miracle, it still will not release until the end 2023 or 2024.
Fear and darkness filled the town of Yomiyama after the death of a student named Misaki in 1972. The people are now aware of the dark secret that the place holds. However, no one is brave enough to talk about it. Twenty-six years after the incident, 15-year-old Kouichi Sakakibara enrolls in the 3-3 class of the Yomiyama North Middle School. That is the same school where Misaki used to go as a student. Kouichi is obsessed with American Horror novels such as the works of Stephen King and John Saul. So the dark history of the school has fueled his curiosity. The moment Kouichi arrives, he notices that all the students have something strange going on. He gets drawn to a strange girl named Mei Misaki, who has an eyepatch over her one eye. Things get weirder when he realizes that he is the only one in the class who seems to see her.
Nonetheless, Kouichi and the girl become closer, and he starts figuring out the mystery behind the darkness that hangs in everyone around him. However, the deeper he digs, othe more he gets pulled into the sinister truth. An OVA that serves as a prequel to the season was also released. Also known as the “0"h episode” "of the season, the special episode unveiled what happened to Mei Misaki in 1972.
Mei Misaki
Mei Misaki is a mysterious classmate at Yomiyama North Middle School. The other students and even the teachers often ignore her. Almost everyone at school calls her “the"one who does not exist.” Me" has a twin sister, and her story was covered in the OVA. Mei wears an eye patch on her left eye and sports short black hair with bangs. Her two eyes are of different colors, something that she is insecure of. When she showed it to Kouichi once, Kouichi assured her that they were beautiful. Over time, she develops feelings for Kouichi.
Kouichi Sakakibara
15-year-old Kouichi is a transferee to the Yomiyama North Middle School. He now lives with his grandparents and aunt after his mother dies. His father works in India. Kouichi is curious to find out about what happened in the school in 1972. The other students warned him, but he is still persistent. When he first met Mei, he thought she was a ghost because no one else seems to see her. He felt relieved when he found out the truth, and the two eventually became closer.
