'Stranger Things' producer Shawn Levy and 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight are working together on a World War II limited series based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer-winning novel.
Netflix is reteaming up with 'Stranger Things' producer Shawn Levy and 'Peaky Blinders' creator Steven Knight for an upcoming limited series based on Anthony Doerr’s Pulitzer-winning novel, 'All the Light We Cannot See.' The upcoming project is expected to be an Emmy contender. Levy and Knight will produce a World War II limited series titled 'All the Light We Cannot See.' Knight will pen the script of the limited series, while Levy will helm all four episodes. Among Levy's most recent projects is the 2021 film 'Free Guy' starring Ryan Reynolds.
'All the Light We Cannot See' will be developed under Levy’s 21 Laps Entertainment. Netflix first announced the limited series in 2019. Here are all the things we know about the upcoming show.
‘All the Light We Cannot See' is a Netflix adaptation of Anthony Doerr’s 2014 Pulitzer-winning and bestselling novel of the same name.
The story follows a 12 years-old girl and an orphan whose lives get intertwined during the Nazi era. Here is the official synopsis from the book:
"Marie-Laure lives in Paris near the Museum of Natural History, where her father works. When she is twelve, the Nazis occupy Paris, and father and daughter flee to the walled citadel of Saint-Malo, where Marie-Laure’s reclusive great uncle lives in a tall house by the sea. With them, they carry what might be the museum’s most valuable and dangerous jewel.
In a mining town in Germany, Werner Pfennig, an orphan, grows up with his younger sister, enchanted by a crude radio they find that brings them news and stories from places they have never seen or imagined. Werner becomes an expert at building and fixing these crucial new instruments and is enlisted to use his talent to track down the resistance. Deftly interweaving the lives of Marie-Laure and Werner, Doerr illuminates the ways, against all odds, people try to be good to one another."
Netflix has found a good blend of experience and inexperience in its cast lineup. The cast includes:

Mark Ruffalo as Daniel LeBlanc, father of Marie-Laure and locksmith at the Museum of Natural History in Paris
Hugh Laurie as Etienne LeBlanc, a reclusive PTSD-suffering World War I veteran and great-uncle of Marie-Laure
Louis Hofmann as Werner Pfennig
Lars Eidinger as Sergeant Major Reinhold von Rumpel
Andrea Deck as Sandrina
The series began filming in March 2022 and wrapped up in July 2022. Filming took place throughout Hungary and France. As of January 1st, 2023, the series is in post-production.
Netflix has not given us an official release date yet. But considering that the limited series has already wrapped filming, it is safe to say that it will arrive sometime in 2023.

Netflix confirmed that the limited series would only have four episodes with one hour of runtime each.
