The third season was really well received and loved by fans who are now eager to know about what season 4 has in store for them.
Several fans of Netflix's 'Santa Clarita Diet' season 3 must have probably binge-watched through its ten newest episodes. It goes without saying that the first three seasons were pretty well-received, and that raised the stakes and expectations for the next season. One of the most underrated comedies, 'Santa Clarita Diet' tells a story about a realtor, played by Drew Barrymore, who becomes a zombie by eating some bad food, and then she and her husband, played by Timothy Olyphant, are forced into killing people so she can survive. Things always don't always go according to plan, and the story starts spiraling from there.
Sadly, Santa Clarita Diet season 4 has been canceled. In a statement, the creators of the show said the following:
Like our audience, we were all-in on Sheila and Joel. Their relationship, in the face of incredible adversity, was inspiring to write and to watch. Mostly, they were funny, which in a comedy is important. Working with Drew and Tim, along with the immensely talented Liv and Skyler, was a joy and a once in a lifetime experience. Netflix took at chance on this odd show and for that we will always be grateful. They were supportive, ever positive, and appreciative of our work. Until about noon today. Still, they were just one phone call away from being a perfect studio. Not bad. Everything ends. This was a thing. And so it ended. We’ll miss it but are proud of the work we did and will always appreciate the love and enthusiasm we felt from our audience. It if was up to them, Sheila and Joel would continue for another 10,000 years.
Santa Clarita Diet has now joined the Netflix graveyard and a long list of popular shows that have been canceled by Netflix. I love Netflix and all but I really don't like how they stop some of our favorite shows so early. Why can't all the popular shows get a long run like Orange Is The New Black? Yes, season 7 of OINTB was the last, but I feel like seven seasons is fair enough. Not 3!
In another interview with Deadline, Cindy Holland, Netflix's head of original content, explained that the decision to cancel Santa Clarita Diet was influenced by multiple factors. She mentioned that their investment decisions are closely tied to projected audience engagement. If a show fails to attract the expected viewership, they evaluate the rationale for continuing to allocate resources to it. Alongside this, she emphasized the significance of critical acclaim. However, the primary objective is to maximize the value of their investments while upholding the responsibility to their investors, acknowledging that the funds belong to the investors rather than the company itself.
In her own words:
It’s a combination of things, When we’re investing, we decide how much to invest based on the audience that will show up. If the audience doesn’t show up, we think about the reason to continue to invest in something that doesn’t do as well as we had hoped. Obviously, critical acclaim is important too. But we’re really about trying to stretch our investment dollars as far as we can and make good on our investors’ money – it’s theirs, not ours.
