It's been eight years since the first season of Absolute Duo ended. Are we going to get a second season, or has it been canceled?
Absolute Duo Season 1 premiered on January 4, 2015, on AT-X, as well as Tokyo MX, KBS, BS11Now, and a few other networks in Japan. The show is based on a light novel series by Takumi Hiiragiboshi. On March 22, 2015, the first season ended, and now hoards of fans who loved the show are curious to know if we will be getting another season and when. Well, let's explore.
Short answer, no. Long answer, maybe. We should consider that there is no more source material as the first season covered all of the light novel series. And, as you know, this is a bad sign. So unless we get more volumes of the eleven-volume light novel series, there doesn't seem to be a chance of a season 2. And since the last volume was released in 2016, it doesn't seem likely that we will be getting any new volumes, especially as we are now in 2023. The writer may have possibly abandoned the series altogether. Also, out of 308,364 votes, the Anime only managed a 6.43/10 on MyAnimeList. So, it wasn't the most well-reviewed Anime. All of this to say, the chances of getting a season 2 are very slim, and it's very unlikely that 8bit Studio would pump resources into an unpopular anime. But there is a chance that another studio, like Netflix, may take it over. Maybe.
At the moment of this article's update, there is no official date of release as we don't even have confirmation of renewal. But we will keep an eye out for any news and update the site as necessary.
The story follows Toru Kokonoe, who is a student at Koryo Academy. The Academy is a special institution attended by students who can create weapons with just their souls called "Blazers." The school has a special pairing system that sees two students partner up in an attempt to achieve the power of Absolute Duo. In the story, Toru tries to master his abilities in order to take revenge on the person who killed his sister. Most students manifest melee weapons, but Toru soon realizes that he is irregular as he manifests a shield! He is then paired with a Scandinavian girl named Julie Sigtuna. Both Toru and Julie have a tragic past, and towards the end of the first season, they discover that the same person who killed Toru's little sister Otoha also killed everyone in Julie's family. So there is clearly some unfinished business in the show as the duo have yet to get their revenge.
