Adult Swim recently announced that a ‘digital short’ spin-off of the hit show "Rick and Morty" is expected to launch next year. It will be one of four spin-offs on the roster and is called "The Vindicators." It will feature Rick and Morty characters Supernova, Vance Maximus, Alan Rails, Crocubot, and Noob Noob.

We will follow these quirky folks as they take on the forces of evil without Rick and Morty. It is expected to be a wild and hilarious ride.

"Rick and Morty" co-creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland will serve as executive producers on the spin-off.

The announcement was made by fellow executive producers Sarah Carbiener and Erica Rosbe. They told The Hollywood Reporter:

We are thrilled to work in the Rick and Morty universe again, and these shorts are an incredible opportunity to explore what happens in the aftermath of the Vindicators saving (or destroying) worlds. We’re so excited to show how this team of superheroes is plenty dysfunctional whether Rick’s around to have half of them murdered or not.

"Rick and Morty," however, won't be the only popular series on Adult Swim getting spin-offs. "Aqua Teen Hunger Force," "Robot Chicken," and "Pretty Face Is Going to Hell" are all also getting spin-offs. Each spin-off series will consist of eight and 10 episodes.

Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, said, per The Hollywood Reporter:

We see it as our mission to put something hilarious within a fingers’ swipe of anyone on the planet,” said “These shorts are a way to meet the next generation of Adult Swim fans where they are, while giving our creators another format to play in and innovate around.

"Rick and Morty" Season 5 is scheduled to release on June 20th, just in time for the summer season. The show aired its first episode in 2013 and has been going strong ever since. The new season will continue on with the misadventures of cynical mad scientist Rick Sanchez and his good-hearted but fretful grandson Morty Smith.
