The story of the spin-off is based on an idea John Krasinski came up with to expand 'A Quiet Place' universe.
The A Quiet Place movies so far are both smash hits. The first movie was released in 2018 with the second one premiering in 2020 but being theatrically released only earlier this year, delayed due to the pandemic. A Quiet Place II was a box office hit as well and grossed $297.4 million. The success of the films is only an indicator of more to come from the post-apocalyptic world where humans have to navigate blind monsters with an acute sense of hearing.
In fact, a spin-off film was announced in November 2020. Both the films were directed by John Krasinski with Emily Blunt in the lead. Krasinski even came up with the story of the spin-off. Jeff Nichols was brought on to the untitled project at the time but has since exited to focus on another sci-fi project for Paramount.
Here's everything we know about the spin-off so far.
The plot of the film will not be the threequel of A Quiet Place II but instead, serve as a way to expand the landscape of the world that has been invaded by alien creatures. The story will take place in the same universe but will go into more details of the world that has been set up in the first two films. In fact, there were many references in the second movie that laid the foundation for a prequel or spin-off. The goal of coming up with a spin-off seems to be to help build a potential Quiet Place universe, very much like the MCU or The Conjuring series, that the studio can build on for years to come.
"A lot of the things I had thought were interesting to think about on Part I ended up being in the sequel," Krasinski teased about the future Quiet Place projects. "Any time I had ideas like that, I wrote them down in case there ever is a Part III or a third one. So I would be able to reference some of these things if there is a Part III." He added, "And we even went so far as to put in a couple of Easter eggs so that if I did do a third one, they would connect back to the second one."
Not much is known about what the spin-off might contain but there is a high possibility that there will be a fresh cast with new faces. Blunt and Krasinski will likely not be reprising their roles in this installment. The stories may converge in the future and all the characters who are fighting off the sound monsters we've seen in A Quiet Place universe may come together.
Since Nichols' exit, a replacement for him is underway before the project can go full steam ahead and we can get more details.
The project may be paused for a bit but it has been slated for release in March 2023. There is still a long way to go but there is a lot of expectation riding on the spin-off after the success of the first two films.
An actual direct follow-up sequel to A Quiet Place II will probably be in the works after the spin-off with an expected release in 2025.
