A Detective Pikachu Sequel Is Officially In The Works At Legendary

The massive success of Detective Pikachu has made it a perfect candidate for a sequel and that's exactly what we're getting --- A sequel!

Detective Pikachu scored the highest opening for a video game adaptation and has become a huge moneymaker for Warner Bros., Legendary Pictures and The Pokemon Company. And, once Hollywood smells a profitable franchise you can bet your house that they will shove it down our throats till we gag on it and die, i.e The Fast and Furious Franchise.

So, as one can expect, a sequel for Detective Pikachu is already in the works. ComicBook.com reported that Legendary Pictures is already moving forward with the sequel and are trying to develop somewhat of a Pokemon universe, similar to that of the MCU. 22 Jump Street and Sonic the Hedgehog writer Oren Uziel is reported to be writing the script.

The first film followed former Pokemon trainer Tim Goodman who teams up with a talking Pikachu to solve the mystery of his dad's disappearance. I went out to see the movie last weekend and I really enjoyed it. But, after watching it, a sequel doesn't seem very possible. At least not in the same vein as the first one. I'm not going to discuss why as it will spoil the film for those who have yet to see it but the sequel is most definitely going to be very different from the first and it may not be able to be called Detective Pikachu unless it borrows some plot from the first film.

It does, however, open the door for the film to delve deeper into actual Pokemon battles and training which was very lacking in the first. It sets the stage for a Pokemon universe and since we know that it is set in the same universe as Ash Ketchum, we may see him make an appearance in the upcoming film, which will be so amazing. I personally like the idea of a Pokemon universe and Detective Pikachu did a great job at introducing it. Who do you think would be a good candidate to play Ash?
