The first season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is an animated show that impressed regular viewers and gamers alike… But, I am here to break your heart, as CD Projekt Red has confirmed that there are no plans for a second season. The 10-episode anime series was released on Netflix on September 13, 2022, and fans were taken aback by how amazing the show looked. Here is everything we know…
Has Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Been Renewed For A Second Season?
In an interview with Famitsu, which was then translated by Video Games Chronicle, CD Projekt Red community manager Satoru Honma said there were no plans to pick up the story of Edgerunners, “I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback,” Honma told Famitsu. “However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background.'”
“Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”
Honma also said that if at some point in the future they decide to create a continuation of the anime then they would go for something completely different and not season 2 for Edgerunners.
“Overseas people say that the anime has given CDPR a second chance. We are grateful to [Studio] Trigger for giving us the chance to enjoy the story of V and Johnny Silverhand after watching the anime,” Satoru said.
What Could Have Happened In Cyberpunk: Edgerunners Season 2?
Fans of the show may not be surprised to hear that it will not be returning for a second season. By the end of season 1, David’s crew had all died, except for Lucy who managed to escape. While a second season could have followed her journey, unfortunately, it will not be happening. However, Honma has not closed the door on this universe forever and the studio will be developing many other productions for fans to enjoy in the near future.
In other news, CD Projekt has announced that they are working on a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077, codenamed ‘Project Orion’. This new game will be developed by CD Projekt Red North America, a new studio that recently opened in Boston, USA. Work on Orion will begin shortly after the release of the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, ‘Phantom Liberty’.
