Dirty Money is the Netflix investigative documentary series that tells the high-profile story of corporate corruption, securities fraud, and creative accounting. It exposes brazen acts of corporate greed and corruption—from crippling payday loans to cars that cheat emissions tests. The series took on some big names including Donald Trump, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, and Jared Kushner, among others.
The first two seasons were a big hit and were also well-received by the viewers for exposing the unethical behavior of big businesses. With a long list of defaulters from around the world, viewers are eager to find out more. Here is what you need to know about the future of the docu-series:
Will There Be Season 3 Of Dirty Money?
Dirty Money has been officially canceled on Netflix according to Alex Gibney, one of the directors. He posted the disappointing news on Twitter. But he has presented some hope of a potential renewal on another platform.
The first season of the show premiered in 2018 and the second season was released in 2020. There were six episodes in the two seasons with each episode focusing on one incidence of corporate corruption that included interviews with key players in each story. Every episode is about 50 to 77 minutes long. Both the seasons have been praised and well-liked.
What Will Dirty Money Season 3 Be About?
The premise of the show is to expose the unethical behavior of corporations trying to get away with hoodwinking the general public. Some of the scandals that the show has shown us so far include Volkswagen’s “clean diesel” cars incident, which seemed like a dream come true for carbon-conscious drivers until a fraud of staggering proportions came to light; HSBC’s money laundering for the Sinaloa Cartel, Hezbollah and others in Mexico; the ruthless and fraudulent practices that helped the growth of Wells Fargo that was long seen as the “golden child” of banking.
If the show gets renewed for another season by another network, it could possibly cover similar scams and scandals, including many that took place during the pandemic. The number of millionaires increased by 5.2 million to 56.1 million globally when the whole world was suffering from the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.
When Will Dirty Money Season 3 Be Released?
The show has been canceled by Netflix. It takes a lot of time and research to make a well-informed documentary that gets all the facts right. We do not know whether the filmmakers are already working on exposing the big corporates yet. If they are, and another platform takes over we could be seeing it as early as 2025. But nothing has been confirmed yet.
