The Rain is a Danish post-apocalyptic series that somehow resonates with the world’s current situation gripped by the pandemic. The breathtaking series follows two siblings as they try to survive in a world where the Rain contains a deadly virus that kills every person that it touches. The show premiered on Netflix on 4 May 2018, followed by season 2 on 17 May the next year. After a successful third season released on 6 August 2020, let’s find out what’s in store for the Danish series.
Has The Rain Been Renewed For Season 4?
Unfortunately, The Rain will no longer proceed to Season 4. Netflix shared the bittersweet announcement back in June 2019, together with the news of the show’s renewal for season 3.
“We’ll see you in 2020 for the third and final season,” Netflix shared via tweet.
The streamer didn’t reveal the reason behind the decision, but then again, Netflix isn’t known for offering explanations. Netflix is very particular with keeping the viewership data for its shows, apart from those exceptionally performing titles.
Is There A Possibility For The Rain To Come Back For More?
Everything is always possible, but it’s going to be a lot of work, and the work must not come from the production team alone. Remember how diehard fans managed to secure Lucifer numerous renewals with their robust campaigns? At the end of the day, Netflix is all about bringing viewers to its platform. Another way for The Rain to continue is to find its home in other streaming platforms, just like animated hit Tuca and Bertie. If the demand is high enough, the possibility of the show’s return will remain. However, showrunners and creators better come up with a fresh new plot should they get a fourth shot after the main characters were killed off in the last season.
What Happened In The Rain Season 3 and What Could Be The Plot Of The Rain Season 4?
Warning: Season spoilers below.
The Rain is a post-apocalyptic series that follows siblings Simone and Rasmus as they try to survive and look for their missing father amidst a chaotic and deadly situation. The rainfall carries a highly contagious virus that had wiped out the population. The only way to survive is to stay dry from the rainwater and make sure to not come in contact with others who are infected. Season 3 wrapped up the series’ overarching plot with Simone’s emotional eulogy for Rasmus.
“I wish I could show you the world of tomorrow. You gave us hope. We’re here, thanks to you. And we’re rebuilding the world in your honor. You are in everything that I do in my every thought. You are forever, my sweetheart. I love you.
The siblings who used to take care of each other in the bunker at the beginning of the series have faced each other in an emotional fight that ended in Rasmus’s death. Within three seasons, Simone has lost her entire family but now holds the cure that will give humanity a second chance in the form of a purple flower. The series wrapped up in an ending that fans deserved. If the show ever gets revisited for season 4, then we’re expecting to see Simone as she tries to rebuild the world from the virus’ havoc. In case you need a refresher, here’s The Rain Season 3’s trailer. The Rain is still available on Netflix for streaming.
Who Will Be In The Cast Of The Rain Season 4?
Again, Netflix has announced that season 3 is the final season for The Rain. However, if the streamer reverses its decision or if another streamer picks up the show for season 4, then we’re expecting to see Alba August return as Simone Andersen as she tries to repair the world in her brother’s honor.
