‘The Promised Neverland’ Season 3: Everything We Know So Far

The Promised Neverland started pretty strong and was one of the most promising animes during its first season. The anime is based on a Japanese manga series written by Kaiu Shirai and illustrated by Posuka Demizu. It tells the story of orphan kids who try to escape the orphanage after finding out that they were only raised to become food for the demons. The first season premiered in January 2019 in Japan and was immediately renewed for another season in March that year, following its successful debut. The second season was released on January 8, 2021, and concluded on March 26, 2021. Unfortunately, season 2 has not lived up to the hype and expectation that the first season brought. Despite disappointing a lot of anime fans, there are still people who wish to see ‘The Promised Neverland’ return for season 3. Will their wish come true? Let’s find out.

Is ‘The Promised Neverland’ Renewed For Season 3?

Not yet, or maybe not anymore. It might still be too early for a renewal considering the tragic fate of ‘The Promised Neverland’ season 2, which concluded in March 2021. The future of the anime might now be at stake due to the extremely negative feedback on season 2’s storyline. The first season performed well and was well-received by fans. It currently maintains an 8.51/10 rating on MyAnimeList and 8.2/10 on IMDB. However, the second season’s rating significantly dropped following the backlash. Season 2 now only has a rating of 5.29 on MyAnimeList.

In a review, HellLyter called season 2 a “butchered adaptation,” adding that it has “complete and utter disregard of the great tone and atmosphere that was so carefully crafted in the first season, and rushing a once engaging story to high hell to make it a sloppy mess.” Nonetheless, fans are still begging CloverWorks to produce a third season of the anime. But with the enormous negative feedback they received from the previous season, the studio might be more interested in focusing their time and energy on their new project, ‘Fate/Grand Order – Grand Temple of Time: Solomon’.

The Promised Neverland is now likely canceled. We’ll follow any new updates on this anime.

What Are The Chances Of ‘The Promised Neverland’ Getting Renewed For Season 3?

Honestly, the chances are looking pretty slim right now. Aside from the negative feedback, the studio might be busy with its new projects. It’s also worth noting that the second season has already wrapped up the plot of the entire manga, although rather hastily. There could have been enough source material to produce at least one more season. However, season 2 rushed the plot. The finale wrapped up the story by using still images from other arcs. This is a tragic, poor, and shameless attempt to conclude an anime with such great potential. ‘The Promised Neverland’ surely deserved better. However, it looks like there is no redeeming the anime now, as season 3 of ‘The Promised Neverland’ appears unlikely to happen. We are more likely to see a spinoff and a reboot rather than a third season.

‘The Promised Neverland’ Season 3 Release Date

‘The Promised Neverland’ is still not renewed for season 3, and without official confirmation of its return, we can’t give you a release date. Let us just hope that CloverWorks will listen to fans who still want to see a third season of the anime. When that happens, we will immediately update this article. In the meantime, if you haven’t watched the second season yet, it’s available for streaming on Netflix, Hulu, Funimation Now, Adult Swim, DIRECTV, HBO Max, HiDive, or for free with ads on Funimation Now, Crunchyroll. Do you still want to see a new season of ‘The Promised Nerland’ too? What do you think about season 2’s pacing? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments.
