Watchmen is the HBO superhero drama series based on the 1986 DC Comics series of the same title, created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. The series is set several decades after the events of the comic books. It was spearheaded by Damon Lindelof and the first season premiered on October 20, 2019.
The nine-part series follows the events surrounding racist violence in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2019. It is set in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws by government agencies. Will There Be Season 2 Of Watchmen?

Lindelof served as a writer and executive producer for the first season of the show. When the first season concluded, he stepped down from his role as the showrunner as well. He had mentioned at the end of the first season that he was done telling the story he set out to. If HBO did renew another season, he said he would not be taking over, “[It’s] not my story, right? I appropriated it,” he stated. “And so the idea that someone else could come along and do another season of Watchmen, that’s really exciting to me, too. I would watch the f*** out of that. These nine episodes are sort of everything that I have to say at this point about Watchmen, and then we’ll kind of go from there.”
The show won some loyal fans who would have loved to see several seasons of the show happen. Additionally, the show received several awards, including 26 nominations and 11 wins at the Primetime Emmy Award. But for the time being, chances of another season of the show happening any time soon is off the table.
What Is In Store For Watchmen Now?
In 2020, HBO announced that it is reclassifying the show from a drama series to a limited series. It also included that it would be open for “any possible future installments.” In a statement, HBO added, “We discussed with the producers and felt limited series was the most accurate representation of the show and any possible future installments.” Since Lindelof made it clear that he was open to someone else picking up the story of Watchmen, he added, “Right now the space that HBO is in and that I’m in is we’re asking the question, Should there be another season of Watchmen? And if there should be another season, what would it be? I’m not saying I don’t want to do it, or that it shouldn’t exist. I’m just saying, ‘Boy, every idea that I had gone into this season of Watchmen.”
The first season dealt with the 1921 Tulsa race massacre, and in the show, a white supremacist group called the Seventh Kavalry takes up arms against the Tulsa Police Department because of perceived racial injustices. As a result, the police also take to conceal their identities with masks to prevent the Seventh Kavalry from targeting them in their homes following the “White Night.” Regina King stars as the lead detective in the Tulsa Police Force, a wife and mother of three.
