One Piece season 2 is officially on its way, and a new member of the Straw Hats will be joining us in the Netflix series’ big return too! Yes, we are counting down the days till we are reunited with the rubber-limbed aspiring King of the Pirates, Monkey D. Luffy, in the live-action adaptation of one of the greatest anime of all time.
The Showrunners have plenty of material to draw on as there are still so many chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga to adapt. However, with the character announcements and the first season’s post-credits scene in hand, we can better predict the plot of season 2. As for the most recent news, we have a release window and the name of the first episode.
When Is The Release Date Of Netflix’s One Piece Season 2?
Season 2 of One Piece will premiere on Netflix in 2025, however we don’t yet have a specific release date.
The second season was officially confirmed in a video by Netflix, featuring creator Eiichiro Oda saying, “It seems people around the world have been enjoying the show, which makes the hard work from the production team truly worth it. To everyone who’s been a fan of One Piece for years and to those who experienced One Piece for the first time, thank you so much. Two weeks after the launch, I just received some great news. Netflix has decided to renew the show! The adventures of Iñaki and the live-action Straw Hats will continue onward!”
Additionally, a behind-the-scenes video and the official Netflix Twitter account have shown that filming has begun. This production will follow a similar six-month pattern as the first, with an anticipated wrap date of January 2025. One Piece premiered a full year after production on the pilot ended.
While we don’t predict that lengthy of a turnaround again, we would be very surprised to see One Piece season 2 drop before mid-2025, with later in the year being a distinct possibility, too. With rumours circulating that production on Season 3 is happening concurrently, fans may not have to wait nearly as long for the next instalment.
Who Might Join The Cast Of Netflix’s One Piece Season 2?
Season 2 of One Piece, which airs on Netflix, features Taz Skylar as Sanji.
To start, it will be no surprise that most of the main characters will be back for One Piece season 2. The cast includes Iñaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Emily Rudd as Nami, Mackenyu as Zoro, Taz Skylar as Sanji, and Jacob Romero as Usopp.
Notable actors including Vincent Regan as Luffy’s grandfather Monkey D. Garp, Jeff Ward as Buggy the Clown, and Morgan Davies as Koby are all set to return. If you’re well-versed in the original work, you’ll notice that characters like Shanks (played by Peter Gadiot) and Alvida (portrayed by Ilia Isorelýs Paulino) will play a bigger part later on.
Daniel Lasker, Camrus Johnson, Jazzara Jaslyn, and David Dastmalchian join the cast as Mr. 9, Mr. 5, Miss Valentine, and Mr. 3, respectively. The four protagonists in the manga story are all part of the criminal organization Baroque Works, whose master plan is to seize control of the Arabasta Kingdom. Also, Princess Vivi, aka Miss Wednesday, has been officially cast in the Arabasta Kingdom.
Charithra Chandran will be taking on the role of Miss Wednesday, who (as anime fans already know) will play a big part in the upcoming season as the Netflix series takes on the Arabasta Saga.
Cast members Clive Russell (Crocus), Werner Coetser (Dorry), and Brendan Murray (Brogy) were confirmed by Netflix on June 26. Actors Julia Rehwald (Tashigi), Ty Keogh (Dalton), Ro Colletti (Wapol), and Callum Kerr (Smoker, the major antagonist from the first season’s post-credits scene) were confirmed the next day by the streamer.
During Netflix’s Geeked Week 2024 event, it was also revealed that Chopper will be in the upcoming season, although we are still waiting to see who will be voicing the cute doctor. Joe Manganiello will play Mr 0, and Lera Abova will play Miss All Sunday (aka Nico Robin and future Straw Hat).
Which Chapters Of One Piece Will Be Adapted For Season 2?
Season 2 of One Piece takes place while Luffy and the rest of the gang are celebrating the end of Season 1.
We reached the absolute end of the Arlong Park arc in One Piece season 1, which adapted chapters 1-95 of Oda’s long-running manga. At this point in time, the 100 chapters= one season rule seems to be the best guideline to follow, since it suggests potential directions for One Piece season 2.
Season two could adopt the Loguetown arc (chapters 96–100) if current trends persist. This is supported by the fact that the first episode is titled “The Beginning and The End,” which is a play on words referencing Loguetown. Chapters 101–104 cover the Reverse Mountain arc, chapters 106–114 cover Whisky Peak, and chapters 115–129 cover Little Garden, all of which occur in the early episodes.
Little spoilers ahead, but we’ll try to keep things vague: in those arcs, Luffy and the Straw Hats battle Smoker, meet the whale Laboon, travel to new places, meet new allies, and confront the Baroque Works officials. That fits in with everything we’ve heard about the casting thus far, so we’re pretty sure it will happen.
One member of the crew gets sick in the Drum Island arc (chapters 130–154), which will probably be adapted for the rest of the season. Dr. Kureha, who was mentioned earlier, is also introduced in it. At last, the epic Arabasta arc (chapters 155-217) will wrap things up—along with the majority of the season, we anticipate. With the introduction of new characters and the climax taking place in the Kingdom of Arabasta, the events there warrant, in my opinion, at least five episodes. I hope Netflix increases the season count to ten episodes so they can cover everything.
Is There A Trailer For Netflix’s One Piece Season 2?
A behind-the-scenes teaser, not a trailer, was released by Netflix during Geeked Week. A quick glimpse of Chopper and the ensemble engaging in a table reading are both shown in the clip. Along with the stream, the streamer shared a set tour video that gave viewers a glimpse of the stunning costumes and equipment used in the play, including cannons and other usual pirate items.
The official release of the One Piece season 2 trailer is likely to be postponed until filming is finished. Because of this, we should not expect to see any more substantial clips until 2025.
How Many Seasons Of Netflix’s One Piece Is In The Works?
There are currently just two verified seasons of One Piece. Although the producers are considering a 12-season adaptation of the majority of the source material, there have been discussions about plotting out six seasons’ worth of stories.
“We’re over 1,080 chapters at this point in the manga. We have plans with [co-showrunner] Matt Owens for how we would break multiple seasons, and I think even if we did six seasons, we would probably only use up half of the chapters of the manga. It really could go on and on and on,” producer Becky Clements told Deadline.
According to her: “We’ve definitely had more thorough conversations about what we would do with Season 2 should we have the opportunity, and then less extensive conversations about where we would go for season three to six.”
According to Marty Adelstein, another producer, “We have hopes for 12 seasons, there’s so much material.” Season 3 appears to have been secretly approved, while we still don’t have 12 verified seasons.
“Hopefully there’s a flashback scene with Patty. We’ll see if they flashback to it, because they’re filming two seasons – season two and three – back to back starting soon,” Patty actor Brashaad Mayweather revealed in an interview with Bruce Crossey (H/T ComicBook.com). “So, we’ll see what happens.”
