Korean thriller drama Squid Game has taken the world by storm. The twisted show follows a group of people who are taken in to play children's games for their survival in the hopes that they can win ₩45.6 billion cash prize ($38.7 million). The show shot to the top spot on Netflix USA and is making waves around the world for its storyline that is not only unique but a critique on society and human nature. 



 

If you loved the show and the ending left you rattled, leaving you wanting for more, the good news is, there are chances that the show can be renewed for a second season. But that will take several years. Meanwhile, you can watch similar TV shows with similar themes to keep you occupied. Here are a few shows that will get your mind in a tizzy:

Alice in Borderland

This Japanese thriller series captured everyone's attention last year with its dystopian theme. The Netflix show is about Arisu, an aimless gamer, and his two friends who find themselves in a parallel Tokyo, where they're forced to compete in a series of sadistic games that they have to survive. The series is based on the manga of the same name by Haro Aso.



 

Sweet Home

Sweet Home is another Korean horror and thriller series that will have you at the edge of your seat. It is based in a post-apocalyptic world where humans turn into savage monsters and wreak terror. Cha Hyun Soo is a troubled teen who along with his apartment neighbors have to fight these monsters who were previously humans to survive while they try their best to hold on to their humanity.



 

Memories of the Alhambra

It is believed to be Korea's first augmented reality-gaming drama. Although the series may not be as gory as Squid Game, it has unexpected twists. Yoo Jin Woo, the CEO of an investment company, is on the lookout for the cryptic creator of an innovative augmented reality game when he meets Jung Hee Joo, a woman who runs a hostel in Spain. The series has a lot of action with fantasy, sci-fi elements, and augmented reality that will make for an interesting watch.



 

The OA

The mystery drama series follows a young woman who returns seven years after vanishing from her home, with mysterious new abilities. She recruits five strangers for a secret mission that involves inter-dimensional travel in her search for her captor. The second season of the series involves a fantastical puzzle that takes place in an abandoned house that needs to be solved to also solve the case of the mysterious disappearance of a girl. 



 

Sense8

The series follows a group of eight people who are able to telepathically experience each other's lives from across the world. They must find a way to survive being hunted by a mysterious organization that sees them as a threat to the world's order. The thriller series has a diverse cast and was praised for its representation of LGBTQ characters and themes.



 

Liar Game

The Liar Game was originally a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Shinobu Kaitani. Much like Squid Game, in the Liar Game, the protagonist, who is a college student receives an anonymous package of 100 million yen (about US$1 million) and a note saying she is a participant in the Liar Game Tournament. In this game, the contestants have to obtain their opponents' money by any means or pay a debt of the same amount. The manga was adapted into a live-action series in both Japan as well as South Korea by the same name.

This is a Brazilian dystopian thriller streaming television series about how in a future where the elite inhabits an island paradise far from the crowded slums, you get one chance to join the 3% saved from squalor after being put through an intense and competitive process. The show has four seasons and is a great critique of the society that has been divided into haves and have-nots.



 

Black Mirror

In this sci-fi anthology series, there are dystopian elements as people grapple with the manipulative effects of humanity's greatest innovations of cutting-edge technology and the impact it has on their personal lives and behaviors. The twisted series will baffle your mind.



 

The Purge

The series is based on the movie franchise of the same name. Set in the same premise as the movies, the TV series is about how one night all crime, including murder, is legal for 12 hours and follows how several unrelated people discover how far they will go to survive the dangerous night.
