When the release date was announced, fans of the show expressed all the enthusiasm for the new season on different social media platforms. The date was announced on the shows' official twitter account, which was June 5. The tweet also contained a short video that included the main cast having an emotional moment together. One of the main cast members Alisha Boe said in the video that she would never forget the experience of making this show.
Netflix also confirmed that the total number of episodes in the final season would be ten which is a bit unusual since all previous seasons have thirteen episodes each.
It also saddens us to announce that this is indeed the final season. Netflix has said that the decision to end the series now was a purely creative one, explaining that season four “will feature the core cast’s graduation from High School which will be a natural conclusion to the show.”
Showrunner Brian Yorkey is also very pleased with the decision to end the show on seasons 4. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, he said, “Somewhere in the midst of making season two, when it became clear that we might have the chance to make more seasons of this, I pretty quickly got to a place where it felt like a four-season story. I’m always a little bit suspicious of high school shows that go beyond four seasons because high school is four years long.
Yorkey added: “It felt like bringing these characters to their graduation and to scattering to their next things felt like the logical ending point. So for a long time, the idea has been, should we be so lucky to have the opportunity, we would do four seasons of this. So certainly going into breaking story for season four, we knew it was the end.”
The creators of the show also announced that all the main cast members are expected to return in the new season which made the fans even more excited. The creators also confirmed that Hannah and Bryce wouldn't be in the final season as they think the characters had an ending which was highly praised by the audience.
The big question everyone has right now is regarding the plot. Most fans are discussing their fan theories on different forums and social media platforms.
During the last season, we got to know that Alex and Jessica were the ones who murdered Bryce. They also have a videotape of Bryce confessing that he raped Hannah and Jessica.
Monty who was killed when he went to jail for the sexual assault of Tyler and for the charge of Bryce's murder that wasn't true.
According to sources, in the final season of the show the students of the Liberty High School's senior class have to keep a dangerous secret buried between them as they know if the secret is out, it can destroy all their futures. But the fans are speculating one theory which can spill the senior class' secret out. The fans believe that Winston might let out the secret that Monty wasn't the one who killed Bryce as they were both together the night the murder took place.
Lastly, the fans are also guessing about the shocking ending of the last season, which showed a fisherman finding the guns. These were the same guns that Tony and Clay got rid of. Will the police be able to track the arms back to them or will someone else get blamed for it all? Guess we'll have to wait to find out.
