11 Sequels Of Famous Movies That Are Currently In Production

Films are constantly in production and at the moment a lot of famous sequels are among those. Here's a list of 11 of sequels of famous movies that are currently in production.

Maleficent 2 has already gotten a poster, title and release date so it's safe to assume that filming is coming along well.

 

Disney is making a live-action version of Mulan



 

Following the massive success of the Beauty and the Beast remake, Disney decided to continue on with the live action remakes of classic Disney films. We already know that Lion King is on the way as we got a trailer already. But Disney is also working on Mulan and they already have someone to play the lead role. Among 1,000 young actresses cmpeting for the role, Chinese actress and singer Yifei Liu was chosen. We currently don't know who will play the dragon Mushu. In 1998 he was played by Eddie Murphy but there hasn't been any news on whether or not he will reprise the role. Disney’s Mulan is planned for 2020.

 

The Rock is returning for Jumanji 3



 

The third Jumanji film is expected to hit theaters December 2019 and everyone from the second film is expected to reprise their role.

 

Avatar 2,3,4 and 5 are being shot simultaneously.

Avatar is still among the 2 highest grossing films of all time and we are expected to get a whole lot more of the blue aliens. Avatar 2 is already in production and word is that James Cameron will be filming Avatar 3,4 and 5 all at the same time. Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana will be reprising their roles in the upcoming films. They are surely going to be really busy for the next couple years. Avatar 2 is set for release in 2020. Then, Cameron wants to release one sequel a year.

 

Pennywise the Clown is making a return in IT: Chapter 2



 

This film takes place 27 years after the events of the first film and all the characters are now all grown up. It's expected to be the scariest and bloodiest film of 2019.

Tom Cruise's 2014 film Edge Of Tomorrow didn't make that much money in the box office. With that knowledge you may think that Warner Bros. would have scrapped the project. On the contrary, Warner Bros. is bringing out a sequel and both Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt are reprising their role. It's said to be a sequel that's a prequel.

It's been 7 years since the last Sherlock Holmes film, not counting that failed version with Will Ferell and John C. Reily. So one might assume that we weren't getting another one but it has been confirmed that we are and it's expected to hit theaters in 2021.

Rush Hour 4 has been a long time coming but we have finally gotten confirmation that it's actually happening and both Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan are returning.

It's been a long time since we last saw a new Chronicles of Narnia film. Since The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe all the sequels have underperformed in the box office. Now, 8 years later, we are getting a fourth film. In 2017, it was announced that Joe Johnston was hired to direct and that filming will begin in 2018. Well, it's 2019 now so I'm assuming that they are almost done.

 

Star Wars Episode IX is almost here.



 

Filming for Star Wars Episode IX has already been wrapped and it's reportedly going to be the last one. We can expect to see this film December 2019.

Jim Caviezel returns as Jesus in The Passion of the Christ and Mel Gibson is back as the director. We don't have much information on this film right now but Caviezel thinks that it's going to be "the biggest film of all time."
