10 WTF Movie Plot Twists We Didn't See Coming

Brace yourselves for the biggest revelations.

Us

We all love a well-executed plot twist!

Unpredictability is such a fancy commodity when it comes to filmmaking. Not every director and writer can pull off an elaborate twist that will keep the audience mulling over the film's details.

Those last-minute revelations are so satisfying, like when we lay out the last piece of a jigsaw puzzle and finally see the whole picture.

From finding out who the real killer is, to unmasking a character's true identity, here are some of the biggest WTF twists in cinemas we never saw coming.

The Others

The Others (2001)

The Premise: Grace Stewart and her two children are tormented by supernatural beings.

WTF moment: Grace and her children are the ghosts, and the beings they thought were spirits were the living people. She killed her children and herself but never realized it.

Us

Us (2019)

The Premise: A family on a beach vacation gets hunted by their doppelgängers.

WTF moment: The Matriarch Adelaide Wilson was the imposter doppelgänger. Red (the murderer) was the true Adelaide Wilson, but her identity was stolen when she was abducted at the very same beach decades earlier.

Parasite-

Parasite (2019)

The Premise: The struggling Kim family infiltrates the wealthy Park's house.

WTF moment: The Kim family finds out that the Parks’ former housekeeper, Moon-gwang, is keeping a secret in the basement. She has been hiding her husband there for the past 4 years. Moon-gwang learns Kim's secret as well. The overarching plot leads to a bloody massacre during the Parks' son's birthday party held in their back yard. Kims’ patriarch (Ki-taek) stabs and kills Parks’ patriarch. Ki-taek goes missing after the bloody incident, but the last twist of the film reveals his whereabouts: He is in the Parks’ now-vacant basement.

Atonement

Atonement (2007)

The Premise: Briony Tallis liked the son of her family's housekeeper, Robbie. On one occasion, she walks in on her sister Cecilia getting intimate with Robbie, and she misinterprets the situation. Feeling spiteful, Briony blames Robbie for an assault on her cousin Lola even though she didn't see the attack. Robbie goes to jail and later joined the army to fight in World War II, while Cecilia becomes a nurse. Years passed, a guilty Briony visits Cecilia and Robbie in their apartment to ask for forgiveness, but the two turned her away.

WTF moment: Cecilia and Robbie never had the chance at a happy ending and never had a life together. Robbie died in the war, while Cecilia got killed in a bombing in London. Briony only wrote a book in which the two lived happily ever after as repentance.

Coco

The Premise: A young Miguel, who has incredible guitar talent, is forbidden by his family from making any music. He accidentally gets transported to the Land of the Dead and looks for his great-great-grandfather Ernesto de la Cruz, who used to be a famous singer. While spending time with the dead, Miguel meets Héctor, a soul trying to reconnect with his family, especially with his daughter, before she forgets him.

WTF moment: The biggest twist was that Ernesto murdered Héctor and that Héctor is Miguel’s great-great-grandfather. The daughter he has been looking for is no other than Miguel's grandmother, Coco.

The Village

The Village (2004)

The Premise: People living in an isolated 19th-century village of Covington are scared by monsters who roam the surrounding forests, simply referred to as "Those We Don't Speak Of".

Planet Of Apes
