10 Things You Didn't Know About 'Boy Meets World'

The popular show aired from 1993 to 2000.

Boy Meets World

Over the course of seven seasons, the beloved ABC series Boy Meets World aired from 1993 to 2000. The show featured Cory Matthews (Ben Savage) who was relatable and funny, his best friend Shawn Hunter (Rider Strong) who was everyone's bad-boy crush, along with girlfriend Topanga Lawrence (Danielle Fishel) who was a strong female lead who young girls could look up to. But is there anything that you don't know about Boy Meets World? Let's have a look.

1. Cory was supposed to have two best friends

In the first three episodes of the series, Cory has another friend in addition to Shawn and the show was going to have a friend's group instead of a duo. They kept bringing new friends to show but it didn't work. The cast even began calling the cafeteria chair that those characters sat in the “death chair” because the actors would never come back, reports Mental Floss.

2. Danielle Fishel wasn't the first Topanga

The actress Marla Sokoloff was originally cast as Topanga and that too just for a few episodes!

3. Mr. Feeny And Dean Bolander Are Married In Real Life

Although they got married on the show as well, in real life, William Daniels and Bonnie Bartlett tied the knot in 1951.

4. Shawn And Eric Couldn't Just Be Professional

Rider Strong and Will Friedle were such great pals that they would often burst into laughter during scenes. This is why the two rarely appeared in scenes together over the course of the show.

5. Topanga was named after Topanga Canyon

“Michael Jacobs says he was driving down the highway when production called and said, ‘We need a name for this character!’ He happened to be driving past Topanga Canyon, so he said, ‘Topanga.’ He says that if they had called him two miles later, I would’ve been named Canoga, which is the next exit,” shared Fishel.

6. Rider hated Shawn's Haircut

“I hated my hair. I came to the audition with that hairstyle, got the part, and the director Michael Jacobs never let me cut it from there on out,” Strong said. “A bunch of girls at a sleepover told me to wear my hair like that—parted down the center—and I was 12, so I listened. It was my version of Christian Slater. But my hair is wavy and they would straighten it on the show and it would take forever. I wanted to cut my hair so bad, but the only time I got to was when we found out the show was going to be canceled.”

7. Angela and Shawn's relationship was a relative first

At the time, interracial relationships like theirs weren't common on major network shows.

8. Only Cory and Shawn appear in every single episode

The only other character that comes in a close second is Eric who appeared in every episode except four.

9. Cory's full name is Cornelius

How many of you knew that his full name is Cornelius "Cory" A. Matthews, to be precise?

10. Willie Garson played three different characters in different seasons of the show.

The late actor was Leonard Spinelli, the assistant manager of the supermarket run by Alan Matthews in the first season. Later, he appears as Mervyn, where he shows up at the Matthews’ outdoor gear store, and then in season seven, he plays the minister who marries Cory and Topanga!
