Thinking about going to Palomino, here are ten of the most fun things you can do in the small Colombian village.
Sup Travellers?! Welcome to this brand new section on Trinikid called "Trinikid Travels". Trinikid is most known as an Entertainment blogger but one of the perks of being a blogger is that you get to work from anywhere in the world. As an entertainment blogger, I have been able to travel the world and see some of the most amazing destinations. But here's the crazy part...I'm only just getting started.
I am writing this article from the beachside Colombian village/town of Palomino. I have been here for well over a week and it has found a special place in my heart. To begin my new travel series I will be writing a bit about Palomino and why you should visit.
My tips aren't going to be the most basic and the most common. I am not going to tell you to go tubing on the river or visit Tayrona National Park. These things are amazing but these are tips that you can find all over the internet.
Okay, okay, this is one of the most basic and touristy things to do in the city and I gagged a bit even considering adding it. Everyone who visits Palomino goes to the river beach and it's quite evident when you get there. There are loads of people, especially Colombian tourists. It is not the most spectacular thing you'd ever see. It's simply a river flowing into the beach which is just amazing to think about. I'd definitely recommend having a nice refreshing dip in the river.
Palomino has tons of restaurants for such a small place. I haven't eaten at all the restaurants so I can't call Gami the best restaurant in the city. It is, however, the best restaurant in the city that I've eaten at. It's an Asian restaurant, specializing in Thai food. The Pad Thai is an absolute banger. It's a very small and homey restaurant with affordable options.
The Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta are the highest mountains in the world that are so close to the sea. From the shores of the Palomino beach, you can see snow-capped peaks. It's a beautiful sight!
Imagine, it's 12 am on a Monday night, all the bars and clubs are closed. You are craving a party, but from the streets, it looks like a ghost town. In your mind, you're thinking, "OMG, Palomino is so boring!" You decide to vent your disappointment by walking along the beach. Then, from the distance, you see a light and the faint sound of reggaeton tickles your eardrum. You follow your curiosity and move towards the light. The light gets bigger and bigger and the music becomes louder. Then, you realize why the city was so empty. Everyone and everyone was on the beach, enjoying a bonfire.
Every day, there is a bonfire party at the beach. It's usually bigger from Wednesday onwards to the weekend but even on a Monday, you can have a good time at the bonfire. If you're ever in the city I highly recommend going to the bonfire at the beach.
This recommendation is self-explanatory. El Zoo Hostel is one of the best hostels in Palomino. They have a pool, a pool table, a bar, and most importantly, a volleyball court. Because no hostel is complete without a volleyball court. Gather some friends and get an intense game of Volleyball going.
I love table tennis and the only table tennis board I found in the city was at Freesoul Hostel. They also have a weekly table tennis tournament where the winner gets free alcohol. So if you're good at Table Tennis and want to save some money on drinks then you should definitely check it out.
There is a special energy that reverberates from Palomino. A special energy that relaxes your bones and distresses you. If you absorb this energy long enough you will continuously feel the need to do absolutely nothing all day.....and that's okay. It is socially acceptable in Palomino to lay in a hammock all day and simply meditate on your life choices. You'd be surprised at all the revelations that may come your way.
If you hang around Palomino long enough, you will, at some point, bump into our little friend Brian. He is a midget with a big energy and vibe. Wherever he is, is a party. I met him within my first few days in Palomino. I was strolling through the streets of Palomino with a few friends when a little man wearing a diaper and sucking on a pacifier called out to us. He told us about a huge party on the beach. When a little man dressed as a baby tells you about a party, it's hard not to trust him. We followed his lead and lo and behold, we stumbled upon one of the biggest beach parties in the city at CABAÑAS PRABA.
If you thought that Palomino was "muy tranquilo" you're wrong. Nomada Bar is one of the liveliest bars in the city and it's super cheap, especially if you like rum and beers. It's also the perfect place to meet locals and tourists who all merge together seamlessly on the dancefloor. Even if you're not a party person I'd highly recommend going for the sake of meeting people.
Last, but not least, you should go watch Flamingos at the Flamingos Flora and Fauna Sanctuary. It's a bit outside of Palomino, an hour away, to be exact. However, if you're in the area, you should definitely take a trip over there.
