Doctor Who is about to get a fresh start (again) with the fifteenth doctor, portrayed by Sex Education's very own Ncuti Gatwa. Spearheaded by Russell T Davies, the series takes a unique turn, labeling this upcoming journey as 'season one' rather than continuing the numerical sequence. So what do we know about this new Doctor Who series? Let's get right into it, shall we?
Specifics are under wraps but we can expect a mix of time-hopping escapades, formidable bad guys, and the Doctor's signature moral dilemmas. The season comprises eight episodes, with titles yet to be revealed, but the focus currently lies on the 60th-anniversary specials featuring the Fourteenth Doctor and Donna Noble.
The season unofficially kicks off with the Christmas special titled "The Church on Ruby Road." This episode introduces us to Ruby Sunday, portrayed by Millie Gibson, a character with a mysterious past who joins the Doctor in an adventure against goblins. Russell T Davies describes this special as a 'reinvention' of the series – a fresh start that maintains continuity with the show's rich history.
Russell T Davies returns as showrunner, joined by a talented team of directors including Dylan Holmes Williams and Julie Anne Robinson. The return of composer Murray Gold adds a familiar musical touch. Bad Wolf Studios, named after a significant storyline, is now co-producing the series.
